[/url][br]The highly anticipated sequel from Infinity Ward is now available for pre-purchase on Steam. After the huge success of COD4, this is a game many Steam users have been waiting for.[br]Controversy has plagued the game in the past few weeks after IW announced the game would have no dedicated server functionality, but instead would come with custom-built matchmaking, essentially killing a large gaming community.[br]Modern Warfare 2 is released on November 12th and is available for $60 / £35. Many people wanted to buy, but will you now?

seriously... too expensive... 60 dollars??? Not even a pre-order discount... Gonna wait till price drops :/
and some people complaint that L4D2 is expensive... I know that this game will rock too... but it's just another Call of Duty... BUT NO ONE IS BOYCOTTING IT!

BUT NO ONE IS BOYCOTTING IT!

Actually, the online petition against it has gained something like ten times the signatures as the L4D2 boycott had at its peak, in less than a week.

And they deserve it.

I still want the game, because I did genuinely enjoy the first one, the singleplayer was good scripted fun and I liked having all the weapons and unlockable stuff to go after online.

But not being able to find a home server with a recognizable group of players to hang out on is kinda annoying. I know we get a friends list, but its not always the case that you want to get to know individual people, its more a case of mixing with a community of say 50 people, where you develop enemies as much as friends. Like those times when you dominate some annoying tosser that has been owning you solid all week. The lack of dedicated servers kinda destroys those little nuances.

I do understand why they are doing it, allot of newbies never make it online regularly because its hard to find a default server straight away. A similar problem occours in TF2 where you get noobs who click the first server in the list, and end up on "Super Orange Airsurfing Killbox 3000" and then they base their entire opinion of the game on that one experience. Valve tried early on to force modded servers into a second list, but people were upset about it, so have been trying to make the browser more clear, (map images, mod tags etc) but some servers hide it, or return fake player numbers. etc.

However that doesnt mean IW cant have both, their peer-to-peer matchmaking system for those that dont want hassle, and the dedicated servers for the hardcore crowd that run clans and so on. I think its the fact they arent doing that, that is pissing people off.

I can't get excited for MW2 even though I enjoyed the first one (especially the multiplayer).

Well I'm not buying it because they ruined the game. Have fun Infinity POS.

Way to support PC gaming by advertising this POS.

Well, I was looking forward to buying this on Steam but not at this price.

He posted the news. If you'd bothered to read the post, he makes mention of the all the upset. No need to shoot the messenger here, you're just making yourself look like a prick.

I Am a prick for calling like it is? Why does this staff have to resort to name calling every time somebody voices an opposing opinion?
Yes, he mentions the upset. And?
It's still a game advertisement.

So instead, Glenn should let personal opinion influence what kind of news to post? How is that any better?

This doesn't actually warrant a reply, but I'm going to bite anyways. If you're frustrated you could at the very least go to the thread in our general games forum that discusses the issue at length and post constructively there, or better yet, write an email or old fashioned letter to Infinity Ward and voice your opinion. Instead you attacked a news poster without actually adding anything remotely productive to the thread or discussing the actual issue at hand.

Hell, you could have even sent a PM to any staff member and asked us to avoid posting news on MW2. Learn when and where your voice actually makes a difference and you might actually learn a thing or two about swaying opinions. There's a way to gracefully go about weighing in on an issue and that certainly is not it.

Waaay too expensive. Stupid Infinity Ward. Hell, MW1 is still selling at places like Wal-Mart for $50. Greedy bastards.

I was actually going to put out the notion that its a bit unprofessional to make an announcement that a game is on sale on steam, and point then out the fact that nobody wants to buy it. I mean, im all for exposure to public opinion, but... you've never done that with any other "Now on sale" announcement. So it seems a bit unfair that you'd do it for this game. And you can only hurt the developers sales with that kind of post, which I never really thought was hl2.nets thing. Its always seemed like hl2.nets thing was to just announce that games are available, and then commenters do hatin.

I don't understand why on steam they now have different prices for australian users then the american users yet the prices are still in USD. 84 dollars for modern warfare 2? that's ****ing bullshit. Why is it that expensive? because we are australian, as ridiculous as that sounds, it's true. Just because we are australian companies. think they can charge more for no reason. That's why our video games here cost 100 dollars, 120 dollars. I bet infinity ward said to valve "yeh charge the australians more, you can get much more out of them, the usual price is this in australia"

Have to admit, when it comes to video games right now, Australia ****ing sucks.

In the UK you can pre-order from quite a few etailers at £30 or just under. That seems to the best option for us hard done by PC gamers. I haven't cancelled my pre-order, because I will still enjoy the single-player, but this whole no dedicated-server malarky is hard to accept given that without the PC, Infinity Ward/Activision wouldn't still be here.

I am not buying half game at price of £35,

L4D2 = £26

i'll be buying this on xbox anyways, cod4 multi was excellent and this looks even better. the vast majority of those 'boycotters' will just buy it anyway as soon as everyone starts talking about how awesome it is.

I'm having trouble understanding why they made spec ops 2 player when games like left 4 dead and stuff are 4 players. Especially as I play with 2 mates!

IW can gdiaf...haven't had the chance to cancel my pre-order still pondering what game to get with the $39 I had down on it.

Yep and it has been proven that we pay more just for being australians.

Well you have to ship those electronic copies farther, so the extra costs covers the shipping.

/sarcasm

It's still going to better than the console versions, despite the online shortcomings, so they've got my money.

Why is it that expensive?

inflation. also serves you right for living on an island like that. What are you, crazy?

Anyway, was planning on getting this, not anymore. Maybe I'll spend the money on weeaboo shit or some ace combat games.

For those interested in the dedicated server issue.

I was going to pick it up on Steam, but no way at that price. Brothers getting it for me for £25 off some site.

Also announcement from Valve just recently - COD:MW2 will have SteamWork support.

snippity

Haha, he must have taken some shit from the PR guys at IW/Activision--he apologized. Pretty stupid on his part to have posted that in the first place, great way to add fuel to the fire.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the NDPs come out once this is released, Vs Borderlands, L4D2 & Dragon Age. Personally I'm hoping to see a nice 4th place. :naughty:

It has nothing to do with inflation. The study that was done proved that for just being australian we are charged more. It has nothing to do with anything else such as shipping wholesale pirce etc.

Infact the australian dollar is 5 cents off being on par with the usd. a xbox game in america costs 50 dollars game here costs 120 dollars.

New Xbox games here cost a total of $65. If they are really $120 that is ridiculous. You'd be much better off buying online.

Exactly what people do. But steam is joining in with the assholes who charge us heaps of money for no reason. The funniest thing is that the retail stores notice people are buying games from them and do you know what there answer is? THEY PUT THEM UP EVEN HIGHER. Why? "people are buying our games, so we will put them up more because there isn't a big enough demand" lol seriously. Theres nothing we can do to stop them.

Oh and even though the australian dollar is nearly on par with the american dollar, that still won't bring prices down.
