If you are leading a mod team, still a student and have a polished beta ready this just might be your golden chance to have the WORLD to see what your project is made of.? Not to mention prizes, travel and fame.

So, for those of you who never heard of this it is called the Independent Games Festival.? Who is eligible you may be asking? Well it is open to all student game developers worldwide, including student mod makers (see student-specific rules)

The student part of the contest winner gets:
[*]$500 allowance per team for travel expenses[*]Two All-Access Passes to the 2010 GDC[*]Mention in Game Developer magazine[*]Mention on Gamasutra.com[*]A one-year limited use license to use a version of the official Independent Games Festival name and IGF Student Showcase finalist logo in promotional materials relating to their Game Entry.
Would be cooler if they could arrange for some face time with developers, project review, etc.

That actually sounds pretty cool on its own. It'd be up to the mod members to network with the biz people.

Yes it is cool, couple years back the mod team i was part of entered and we won. Loads of fun and free media access. Your own booth watching gamers, devs playing your mod.

Damn. I am a mod leader, but I am not studying game design (I study maths at University). Also, I don't live in what ever country this is.

I think you can still enter the "main competition", there are 2 kinds, students and main?
Or did I understand it incorrectly?

I don't think you need to be a student of game design. At least, it doesn't mention it and high school students are eligible too.
RESTRICTIONS/ELIGIBILITY:

The Contest is open only to individuals 13 years or older who were full or part-time college or high school students during the Spring 2009 semester and who have access to the Internet on or before November 15th, 2009. Individuals under the age of 18 years must provide evidence of parent or legal guardian consent satisfactory to Sponsor. Sponsor, its parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and its advertising, promotion, and production agencies, as well as employees of any of the foregoing, members of such employees’ immediate families (including spouse, parents, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, step-children, step-parents and in-laws), and persons with whom such employees are domiciled, are not eligible. Each Entrant may enter only one (1) game in the Contest. In addition to the foregoing general eligibility requirements, the following additional requirements must be met:
Student Requirements: The spirit of the Contest is to showcase what students can do, unassisted by professionals. As a result, only games that have been developed entirely by full or part-time college or high school students are eligible for entry. If a game has been developed with any assistance from a professional, it is not eligible for entry.
Updates: Entered Game updates are permitted during the Nominating Period. Patched updates from competitors via FTP or CD-ROM will be permitted throughout the judging process. However, Sponsor does not guarantee the viewing or application of every patch/update by the Nominating Committee.
Installation: All Entered Games (except for Web Browser Games) must include an automated installation and uninstallation routine.
State of Development: All Entered Games must be in a "beta" state or better (i.e., Entered Games must be feature-complete). At least one (1) level of each Entered Game must be complete and fully playable.
Platform . Entered Games may run on any platform (PC, Mac, console, PDA, etc.). Any Entrant submitting an Entered Game that requires special hardware (e.g., uncommon PDAs or older consoles) may be contacted by Sponsor to obtain the hardware at the Entrant’s sole expense.
