then what the hell are you doing in this thread? seriously some of you are just trolls ..dont like the genre dont play it simple as that ...I'm not a big fan of counterstrike ..but do you see me in the CS:S section moaning about how counterstrike is so "yesterday" that it's "the same shit over and over again"? your comments arent appreciated because regardless of the quality of any ww2 game you will NOT buy it because you dont like the genre ...so why even bother criticising something you never had the intention of playing?
god it's like you cant let anyone else enjoy something you dont. Well here's a little secret ..WW2 games SELL, INCREDIBLY well too, they will ALWAYS be made because believe it or not the majority of people who buy ww2 games are NOT hardcore gamers, they're ww2 fans/buffs ..so regardless if some of you think that it's "be done to death" or it"lame" it will still sell
damn, the shit some of you come up with .. "oh snap guys lets like go to xbox 360 because they sell our games better!" ..that's just a lot of bullshit, did you read the article I linked to? it distinctly said this game was console only (just like Call of Duty Big Red One was) but that there would be other call of duty games that come out for pc
smwScott said:It's not really a genre. The genre would be first person shooters. It's an incredibly over exploited sub genre. But that's not really the point, I like the WW2 setting too. The fact that they make so damn many of them isn't the point either, if it sells it sells. The problem is that they completely lack originality. So many of these games play exactly the same, even between completely different franchises.
Also, they're almost entirely watered down Teen rated mainstream crap. There's no sense of authenticity or any attempt to really convey the true horror of war. As far as plot or narrative go, they're incredibly bad. Instead of actual developed characters they drop in History Channel style info clips between missions, which isn't enough. It just shows how they failed to tell you what was going on within the context of the game.
And now there's another pre-rendered trailer. The reason it was pre-rendered was to make the game seem more exciting than it really is. In reality it's just the same shit you've been shoveled for the past four games, as well as the MOH series and probably a few others.
CptStern said:I can pretty much say that about any genre ...creepy game where things go bump in the night, done to death, military online shooter, done to death, military online shooter with tactical elements, yup been done, military online shooter with vehicles, check, military shooter with vehicles with tactical elements ..yup done that too. Why are many games carbon copies of each other with some variance thrown in to make it seem new? ...it's because games cost a shitload to make and publishers want a guaranteed return for their investment ..so why take a risk when you can just rehash yesterday's idaes, throw in the latest fancy tech and add a few small features and viola, you have a whole new franchise to leech money off of. WW2 games are guarenteed sellers and why mess with a tried and proven recipe for success? does it make for good gaming? not necessarily but immediate returns are their goal, not building an audience
And the XB360 too if the devs learn to take advantage of the hardware and grow more efficient..Sebastian said:Who knows, the PS3 may be capable of rendering games like this.

I think pre-rendered should be okay for ads, but then there should be also a clear disclaimer, as you sort of pointed out, that this is not INGAME OR INENGINE graphics, I'm fine with like 25% of the trailer being some form of pre-rendered intro/outro and the other 75% being fully composed of ingame footage if you follow what I mean.VirusType2 said:That article is the best news I've heard in a while. When I saw those commercials for Big Red One, it was blatantly obvious that the PS2 could never in it's dreams produce graphics anywhere near that level, yet it was so obvious they were trying to make it seem like those were the in game graphics.
False advertisement, misleading adds - call it what you want, I call Activision crooks for airing that commercial. I feel sorry for the suckers who bought the game thinking it would look like that. Pre-rendered game advertisements are completely crooked and it should be a crime. Show the game play or don't show anything.
Activision should be ordered to allow anyone with a receipt (to prove they didn't steal it) to be able to return the game for a full refund.
Exactly. It should say "Not actual game footage" on the television ad. The same thing happened with children's toys here. They had to include a disclaimer "This toy can not actually fly", or "This toy can not actually shoot".Gargantou said:I think pre-rendered should be okay for ads, but then there should be also a clear disclaimer, as you sort of pointed out, that this is not INGAME OR INENGINE graphics, I'm fine with like 25% of the trailer being some form of pre-rendered intro/outro and the other 75% being fully composed of ingame footage if you follow what I mean.
They actually got in trouble for that.VirusType2 said:False advertisement, misleading adds - call it what you want, I call Activision crooks for airing that commercial.
