Camera @ 107,145 feet.

I don't think its fake. a while back i posted about a camera being sent to space for just under $150 or something like that

Indeed, you can totally tell it was made with Google Earth.

If that is a fake, then its done by special fx industry professionals who did one hell of a job.

I think this is far more likely to be real than fake.

If Sparta was born with sarcasm detection, he might be a very different person today.

I hate that this is how close the majority of our generation is going to get to Space...

I wish I could fly...really ****ing fast. Brb, evolving.

ed: there we go!

if it was real, how'd they get the footage back?

I dunno, because the camera landed in the ending?

EDIT:

need i remind you how did they locate it?

When the other balloon camera thing was on the news the story was that they were waiting for their GBS locator (or whatever they used) to give a singal from it or something. They thought they had lost it until suddenly it gave them a singal again.

GBS...gay butt sodomy?

I love how when it hits the ground, it automatically focuses on the balloon

ITT: We find out who is completely inept at understanding A) simple physics, B) the way the earth works, C) the current state of electronic and mechanical devices, and D) how to focus long enough to watch, or scrub through a 10 minute video.

'tis a sad day for hl2.net

Would've been a bitch if that shit had hit something when it landed.

I actually am working on doing this same project myself. I'm waiting until January though when the weather in my area will be better for it, and then I'll have more time for it. I've been looking it up and it's pretty simple, I'm think I'll order myself some posters of a few pictures when I'm done to hang in my room. I wish I had found out about such a project before Slashdot featured the MIT students, now everyone is doing it.

"So what's that a picture from?"
"I sent a camera to space and I printed a poster of it."
"DUDE, YOU BE AWESOME!"

They posted another video of it at max altitude, though it would be nice to see the whole thing.

well, the WHOLE THING was two and a half hours, which would be unnecessarily long. But what WOULD be cool would be time lapse of it, maybe changing it to seven minutes... I dunno

What if it had caught a jetstream and got moved halfway across the country?

...

What if it had caught a jet[strike]stream[/strike]?

I'm sure they picked an area free of plane routes.

Still, the wind could've taken that bitch far away, it could easily have struck down on a kindergarten.

I predict a new class of air regulations against amateur balloons, like a permit requirement, if this gets out of hand. Hmmm. Maybe I should enjoy it while I have the chance. Then again, I live directly under a flight path ...

Am I missing something? Has some of Halflife2.net's members suddenly turned stupid?

I can't see how they can really regulate and require a permit for this. How will they know is doing it? It's not like they have license plates for these things....

Sure, catch em in the act, bust em..but I seriously doubt this will be as much of an issue as people are making it out to be.

If lawmakers sign something keeping people from launching homemade weather balloons the picketers will be singing the Firefly song.

Aside from that you people are funny and it was a real video. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/09/21/space.camera.icarus.ireport/index.html It has bedazzled NASA becasue these MIT students got a beer cooler from a frat party, stuffed a camera in, got a strong weather balloon, and let it fly.
