"War is the engine of History"

I'm pretty damn sure he said it - but can't find what book it's in :|

All google has served me with is a blog article which tells me he said it, but doesn't source it. Balls.

Any ideas HL2.net??

I doubt he said it if it's not on marxists.org, which it isn't.

Wiki failed me too...
What do you think it was in reference to? I mean, war, but, like, where's it from?

Seems like another oft misquoted line attributed to someone famous to make the line seem more important than it is. This isnt unusual as Plato is often misquoted as writing 'Only the dead have seen the end of war.' when in fact he never did.

Heh, if he didn't say it, who did?

It's cropped up in a variety of academic papers.. as a phrase - I could have sworn it was Trotsky.. bah

It might well be apocryphal, hm. I need to find out who said it :\

I doubt he said it if it's not on marxists.org, which it isn't.
