Hi, I'm interested in getting into PC gaming so I can mess around with Garry's Mod, as well as to play Counter Strike: Source.
Anyway, there's this awesome mod called "Black Mesa." It remakes the original Half-Life using the source engine.
So what I'm asking is, can I play Half-Life 2 Mods using the Orange Box?

The orange box has a normal HL2 disk

Go nuts

The Orange Box includes: Half-life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2, Portal & Team Fortress 2.

With those games you'll be able to play any mods released by the half-life community. The OB is available to purchase as a retail "orange" box or through Steam where it is cheaper. It's a great purchase.

And don't get your hopes up for Black Mesa Source, it won't be released till 2012 at least ;)

Continuing JohnKiller118 original post for skin packs that have been made for HL2, how do you get them to run for the orange box. Ive tried multiple folders but I havent been able to find the folder that it loads the skins out of. Any help here would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

When in HL2 your custom materials used to be in C:\Steam\steamapps\[username]\half-life 2\hl2\materials with EP2 you have to put them in C:\Steam\steamapps\[username]\half-life 2 episode two\ep2\materials

If the folder doesn't exist, create it.

That works for half life 2 but in the orange box they dont have the files under the separate games, none of the EP1,EP2 or regular HL2 have "materials" as sub folders. Thats my problem is that I am unable to find the folder that the game is drawing its graphics from. And yes I have run a full computer search looking for said files, unfortunately they dont seem to be under any name i can think of for them.

Just create the folder. In EP2 it has to be "half-life 2 episode two\ep2\materials", in EP1 it's "half-life 2 episode one\episodic\materials", in HL2 it's "half-life 2\hl2\materials". Valve's own materials are in the .gcf files, but even they follow the same folder structure.

Ive tried that filepath for both HL2, ep1, and ep2 and the game doesnt load the files, ive also placed the files in 90% of the folders already existing within "C:\Steam\steamapps\ursabear\half-life 2 episode one" , "C:\Steam\steamapps\ursabear\half-life 2 episode two" ,and "C:\Steam\steamapps\ursabear\half-life 2" and in none of those files does it load the skins im trying.
