For those of us not willing to wade through 700 posts, all the new info and interesting facts

96%...it will pwn j00, and r0x0r your b0x0rz!!

The game also looks a lot better then before. Shadows gfx etc etc.

I wouldn't know. I don't have US PC Gamer yet. :(

hl2 powns ass, has no original (or even vanilla DM) MP, CS:S is included and "supposedly" will be playable by people who purchase HL2 via steam next week. Graphics have been mildly touched up (some soft shadowing, and bumpmapping here and there) but generaly look the same as last year. Map geometry from the shots I saw.. still make Hl2 map design look barren for some reason.
story kicks ass, gordon kicks ass, buy the game.

like stated before,

Gameplay was a major plus to this game.

Hell, In any game, if the graphics are shit and the sound is crap but the gameplay is a 10... you KNOW its a good game!

The resistance fighters have medics, Barney looks older. Going to be as revolutionary, possibly more, than HL1. Me so happy.

Has anyone here actually read the review?

Don't think so. Someone posted a pic of some guy holding the review up earlier. Wonder where he found that. I bet there are a few people in this forum who have read it. I think the majority of us will have read it by Sunday. I won't read it, I'm just going to the the most minor/specific details from it, and god i pray there is still a HL2 MP... :( it's pretty confirmed it isn't though, but there is still that small possibility that is like locked in my dumb brain somewhere that refuses to believe it until the game is in my hands.

So no one has actually read a review??? What about all this talk about scans? I've had a look on the web to be honest, but haven't found anything. I buy the magazine anyway, so I'd be getting a sneak preview! :p

96% PC Gamer UK
The reviewer states that during one part of the game, he reloads a level just to watch one scripted scene again, and then he realised that Valve had not only topped everyone else, but also themselves (if that makes sense)

90% PC Gameplay NL
The reviewer say's that the single-player is the best there is, and the best of all the next-gen games out so far (better then Far Cry and Doom 3) but deducts points because there is no original multiplayer, only CS:S.
He also hints that it would've gotten the highest score ever if it did have its own original multiplayer

So basically, these two reviews are saying that the game seems to be just as revolutionary as the original, if not more, which is the best possible news we could've hoped for

Haven't heard that one before, is that your own conclusion that if there's no original MP but it still gets a 90 the singeplayer must be amazing? I'm checking out stores tomorrow for PC Gameplay.

And believe me, when PC Gameplay gives a game a 90, you can go out and buy it blindly without ever even hearing of the game before.

I believe they also gave codename: panzers, and soldiers:hero of world war two a 90%

They lost some credibility here..

PC gameplay are quite the MP whores - they rated UT2004 much higher - just because of the MP. One could argue that UT2004 is more fun than CS, but the point is that SP games get less credit for making a good story and atmosphere. MP2 also scored pretty low in PCGameplay, just because of no MP.

My PCGamer UK came thru today.

Straight to the HL2 section obviously. I does get 96%. The review is great. Apparently the level design is uniformly brilliant throughout and the reviewer couldn't believe that the maps were artificial. They simply felt too alive to be artifical.

The review doesn't go into the story much at all (which you'll no doubt agree is good), but massively praises valve on the level design.

It also expands upon the grav gun and the instinctive use of physics throughout the game.

overall, very very very good indeed. I can't wait.

My level of enthuisam for this game went down after the theft and forced delay but now after reading that it's back to huge levels.

Btw they state the release date as Autumn, but then later in the mag they have a speculative Nov 5th date (guessing I assume).

November 5th is Autumn, i cant see it coming out in october, the Gold announcement just isn't coming when the review copies seem perfect. I think VUG are holding the game up. bastards.

One part of the game the review didn't seem to cover (I'll double check when i get home from work) is the AI. There was one caption under a screen shot saying something about the combine surrounding a house after hearing gordon fire off a round at another combine. It said they fanned out to cover all the angles and that he wouldn't survive. Or something to that effect.

It also mentions something about overwatch soliders (maybe combine but I don't know as he also mentioned the combine soliders as combine soliders. Fighting the overwatch soliders was like fighting the soliders in the original supposedly.

Thanks for the info Popsicle, any other new info?

Check the last page of the PCGamer NL score thread.

Not off the top of my head.

I'll have another look through it after I finish work (in about 3 hours or so) and write up anything I think is relevant.
