Today in english class we recieved some actual letters written by american students as part of a cooperative project between my school and a school in florida. I found these letters (more close to emails so meh, teacher had printed them all out anyway) kinda hilarious, Ill post them here and can you find the factual errors? No scandinavians please
Note that names are removed for mercy.
Also note that I post all letters, some of them does not even attempt to provide facts (those are the most intelligent ones IMO).
American number 1
"Well, Sweden is a country where people don't speak English, but they try to learn. A lot of Swedish people like to dance. They dress differently then us in the IS. In Sweden they are known for making goat cheese and I have also heard that the Women are VERY tall."
number 2
"I am sure that Sweden has many different holidays like we do. Such as we have Christmas, they start there's Four Sunday's before Christmas Day and ends with the 20th day of Christmas. They also have a celebration known as St. Lucia Day, so you can see that they have different holiday's and traditions."
number 3
"When Americans think of Sweden and its people, we think of small, skinny, and pale. We also think of guards in tall black hats. We also think of Swedish Meat Balls."
number 4
"The Swedish people have high taxes and come from the Vikings"
number 5
"The thing I know about Sweden is that its Cold all the time. They don't have many homeless people and very nice ski resorts. They also have heavy accents, bad cheese, and really expensive and good choclate."
number 6
"From the responses we read from the Swedish students yesterday, I come to see the opinions of their students. Taking English as a second language, they did very well presenting their views on hip-hop, fat people in America, and a bit on the current war on terrorism. With that knowledge, I can honsetly say that they know more about American than the students in this class. It's embarrassing the comments of my peers made to their responses, but it does reflect the ignorance of the American youth."
number 7
"I don't know much about Sweden but I would like to find out many facts about it. I know that the language spoken is Swedish. Is Swedish a hard language to learn? Since Sweden is located in the artic circle, the climate must be cold, but in the summer's does it warm up? The Swedish standard of living is said to be one of the highest in the world. Is the population low becouse of the climate? What is the government system? Religion? City life? I would love to know more."
number 8
"Sweden is a beautiful country according to my mother who once visisted. I know that Sweden is a part of the EU, its capital is Stockholm, its government is a constitutional monarchy, and its prime minister is called Gorah Persson. Timber, hydropower, and iron ore constitutes the resource base of the economy.
I know some Swedish musicians such as ABBA and the Hives. 1/2 the population participates in sports and the two main spectator sports are soccer and ice hockey
As exemplified by the Nobal Prize, Sweden is a leading nation in the field of education and has 33 institutions of higher learning.
Some of the drinks and foods include Kottbullar, Julskinka, Ham, Absolute Vodka, Pommac, and Enbarsdricka. The juniper is a fruit and it looks like the purple grape."
number 9
"I don't know much about Sweden except that you are located in Europe and you speak Swedish. Let's just say that I am pretty ashamed of that. I don't know why we don't learn much about Europe and if we do its only for a short time and only about a few countries like France, Italy, England and Germany. Then we move on to Central and S. America. We never learn about places like Australia, Sweden, or even Canada and its right there! I would definalty like to learn more about Sweden and not just accept what I hear on TV as life really is."
