I have enough RAM and CPU power to run HL2 but my video card sux bigtime, its an s3 graphics card with 32mbs. I have a labtop, and I need to know if this can be upgraded. Its a compaq presario 700 if that helps, its atleast 3-5 years old. I know only certain models can be upgraded, and only to a certain degree due to the labtop's limited power. Would it be possible to upgrade this to an R600, and maybe upgrade the CPU as well?.

Can someone reply to this plz?. I don't know jack about labtops...

You can't upgrade a laptop's graphics card, or the CPU. You can upgrade RAM, and maybe swap out the HD (I'm not sure about the HD), but past that, laptops aren't very upgradeable.

And in a lot of cases you can't even upgrade the ram if it's built in. Sometimes the hard drive is built in too. They usally use a propritary hard drive or ram type too, so you can't just pick up generic ones at the local computer store.

It depends on the laptop, some offer user-upgradeable graphics, but these are usually new ones.

Laptop hard drives and RAM, on the other hand are quite easy to source - but some very few manufacturers do use proprietary (read expensive) stuff. If it isn't tho, you can use the same sort of memory as the Apple iMac, PowerBook and iBook - or just plain vanilla SO-DIMMS. 2.5 inch hard drives are harder, but not impossible to get.
