The Canadian government is warning perturbed Americans planning to move to Canada (search) after President Bush's win that they must stand in line and go through the same application procedures as any other immigrants — which can take up to a year.

The Canadian immigration ministry says, "You just can't come into Canada and say 'I'm going to stay here'...There has to be a reason why the person is coming to Canada."

I thought this was funny =)

Is anyone on these forums seriously considering moving to canada? I only know one person who is. Which is pretty hilarious. I don't know how bush has personally affected any of your peoples lives. (Excluding people who've been sent to iraq/afghanistan(sp?) or those who have relatives on active duty)

His policy could have effected their job prospects, or they could just be ashmed to be American after the wars.

meh that's the dumbass way to do it :)

if you join the US military and then before you're shipped to iraq go awol, come to canada and claim refugee status: that's it, you're in without waiting :) ...worked for a number of former US soldiers now living in canada

A hint to all those fine americans who are crossing the canadian border and hope to try and get married with a canadian chick (a "canachick"): Don't brag about being american. Outside of your own borders, bragging about that will get you smackerpunched on the nose at best. Instead, tell the newly met girl you have a very dark secret. Also, speak with a mix of all the accents you believe people speak around the world. She will find you very mysterious. Don't ask for "dates" - nobody does that, yes, really. Just make sure you spend time alone with a girl (big hint). Then, just after you had sex, be sure to mention your dark secret, and cry about it. Tell her it's not your fault. Cry some more. Be sure to maintain the mix of accents.

Have I missed something? I thought that the President of the United States actually does affect lives. A lot, actually. It affects workers, it accepts your every day citizen, (and soon) it will really affect homosexuals.

Americans tend to take us Canadians for granted.

For example they've been invading our hospitals for flu vaccine recently.

If us Canadians suddenly disappeared, you Americans would be screwed (and vice versa).

1. Canada kicks ass. (I'm not saying that it is better than the U.S.)
2. What does it mean when people say, " Taken for granted." mean?

Actually I wanna move out to Canada, got a lot of friends there. Looked into it all and its just so much hassle lol Im moving to the states like anytime now and might still consider moving across the border after a few years.

Depends how well I do out there i suppose.

Anyone who wants to leave the U.S. because they don't like conservatives, just let me know -- I'll buy you a one way ticket to whatever Euro-centric socialist plot of land outside of the border you want to move to. You'll be happier there and so will I. It's a win-win situation.

Just let me know, the offer stands.

I'm an American living in Canada and I have to be honest... it kinda sucks up here, to be blunt. The Canadian government is more corrupt and a bigger gong show than US government, they just aren't powerful enough to effect the world with their idiocy. Canadians want so much to distance themselves from Americans, but the sad truth is they are exactly the same.

Whatever, Canada can have them.

now I know you're full of it ..hmmm maybe I'll ask a mod to check your ip

Canada has a lot of good things going for it and it's social policies are far better than ours. But I wouldn't move just because of one president. That would be giving up. I still think this country does a lot of good things even though I think it is currently going in the wrong direction. But if everyone moved then there would be no opposition to set thing right again.

I don't want to give the wrong impression here. I mean, I love Canada. I live right across from Canada. I go to Canada all the time. It's great, I do all my shopping there. It's like an endless buy-one-get-one-free sale every time I spend an American dollar in your inferior economy. Of course, the bad news is that I have to put up with all the Canadians, but since you have no real relevance in the rest of the world, I only have to deal with you when I'm in Canada or on a game forum with 12 year old Canadians. Otherwise you occasionally make the news here when your government officials (what are they called there? Dukes still?) bitch and complain about how superior Canada is to the U.S. Does the Queen make you superior, is that what it is? I mean, I don't remember, we haven't been Britain's bitch for over 200 years here.

So for the record, I love Canada (because the Earl of Canada has a higher IQ than our President!)

"Oh, Canada... "

I've been living in Canada, working here since February of this year, no lie. I'm supposed to be here at least another year, but I want out badly. I'm in toronto, I swear it's like living in Milwaukee but everyone has LA attitudes. From what I understand the rest of Canada hates Torontonians as well. I swear not a day goes by I don't run into some idiot up here giving me shit about the US. Some of the nastiest most unpleasant people I've ever met are Canadians and I've spent a fair bit of time in NY and LA. I thought I'd have a problem with the French when I got here. Turns out the French guys are all great, it's the white bread English speaking Canadians usually deserve to have their noses broken. So ignorant and incredibly intolerant.

The relevance of an isolationist and nationalistic superior attitude died about a hundred years ago.

Welcome to 2004.

actually canada benefits from bush being president ...our dollar is the highest it's been since the 80's (american $ is at a low)..and with Bush in the oval office there's no way we'll join the coalition ...we might even tighten up the borders which means less guns get smuggled in ...lets see ...there's also 4 more years of verbal gymnastics to look forward to ...heheh the "internets" is a classic

Actually, we tend to have respect for Americans here (at least Vancouver). There isn't some giant racial divide; Americans fit in pretty easily. We have enough racial problems with non English speakers and illegal immigrants, so we don't bother creating prejudice for Americans. It's not like in France where you'll get beaten up by Jacques and his gang.

Back off! Get your own country! *super double jump kicks all teh scared little foo USians* :frown:

j/k

I like my Canada. You can have some if you want...i guess. But not Mr. Bildo...

It's funny... if the U.S. has no relevance, why are you so worried about who we elect? Nice try...

Your in Vancouver? I've been through there. Was rather pleasent. Didn't get to spend much time in it though as I was headed to Whistler/Blackcomb. Best skiing I've ever experienced.

Did I say the US has no relevance? No, I did not. I said an isolationist and nationalistic superior attitude no longer has much relevance in the world.

Why am I worried about who the US elects? Maybe because I live here? That a good enough reason for you?

He's talking about your attitude, not the US's.

heh someone complaining about the US in a foreign country? ..damn you'd think you'd be used to it by now

Glad you enjoyed it here. Too bad you didn't stay long, you could have experienced the never ending rain we usually have. :D You really went to the creme of the creme in terms of BC; our mountains are wee tiny babies in terms of age. They have yet to flatten out like the rest of Canada.

Not being popular in Canada is like not being popular with fat pot marked D&D kiddies in High School -- no big loss. The only thing worse than being hated by Canadian's is having to share a border with them. At least France and Germany are an ocean away.

Weeeee :dozey:

Edit: nvm. Canadians..hurray?!?

I'd much rather share a border with Canada than a country with you.

Sure.. you're right, I'm sure I'm the only Bush supporter (BTW -- we're officially the MAJORITY of Americans now) who doesn't embrace Canada, especially over the fair treatment we've received from Canada. Maybe it was the constant praise for the Bush administration? But what do I know? I'm the only American that must feel that way.

What are you talking about? You think being a Bush supporter is synonomous with having an isolationist superior attitude? Is it this the same isolationist attitude that got us into Iraq?

Do you like flu shots?

That may be the opinion of the majority of Americans, but he was still addressing you. And what fair treatment from Canada? I thought our opinion didn't matter? So what do you care what we say?

hah I just love these "my country is better than your country" debates! so full of piss and vinager :E It reminds me of the fervour of nationalism that led to events such as this and this

Actually, I never said I was isolationist. I just happen to think that Canada has been bitching about my country for 4 years now. They've tried to undermine everything we've done for 4 years and now they're pissed we re-elected Bush.

I happen to love Australia, Britain, most of Eastern Europe, Central America, South America.. in fact, the only people I have a serious problem with are the French, Germans, and Canadians. That's not isolastionist, it's selective.

What do you mean? You live in the US too right?

Crap, you mean you're here too?
