I just finished watching a documentary about Canada and Quebec and how Quebec was so close to seperation in 1995 and breaking up Canada. This Gomery report could rise another referendum in Quebec as that province is in the dead center of the scandle. It's a very bad thought to have our country to go through that again..it was bad enough in 1995. That was Quebec's second attempt at seperating from Canada, and they lost again...but they were really close. If Quebec seperates, it could devistate the Canadian infastructure and break up the whole country essentally destroy Canada. This is the most serious event in the history of Canada, (it's also important to Americans to really pay attention, as they will be majorly affected by this.)

remember if they seperate they have to pay their share of the debt (which because of population is quite high)

I'm not sure if the rule is they have to pay it off before they can officially seperate or after

Quebec separatists have been whining ever since England pwned them hundreds of years ago. They want to separate from Canada yet they would want to retain all economic ties with Canada, be protected by our military, and even continue to benefit from our tax dollars.

Sometimes, the French can be so... difficult.

Oh, the irony...

Well..Canada does have the best ground troops in the world. No joking either...and the best pilots...but now I'm just bragging. :E

ill keep my fingers crossed.

That's nice...the United states will suffer greatly as well from this...don't forget that Canada is your source for trading, The US will be in trouble as well.

I think you've mis-spelt Great Britain as c - a - n - a - d - a, simple mistake to make so no worries.

I don;t know of anyone who could say that with a straight face

I voted in the 1995 referendum ...it was very close, within a few percentage points. Separatism has always been an issue. Francophones have grown increasingly dissatisfied with the federal government but this is unlikely to lead to separation as the average francophone doesnt see this as a national unity issue

what's more likely is that the conservatives will use this scandel in an attempt to overthrow Martin's liberals. Under a more charismatic leader they might actually pull it off, but thankfully they have Harper who isnt exactly charismatic or much of a leader ...too many canadians fear his form of conservatism

dream431ca: dont mind gh0st, he probably couldnt find canada on a map if he tried

I don't get what they'd gain by seperating though. They'd lose all of the enormous Canadian oil reserves, no, and surely they contain a lot of Canada's wealth? Just because you're descended from a bunch of rubbish fighters (;P) doesn't mean you should seperate, just embrace difference in culture and get on with it.

So very true. Hes in even worse shape now than he was during the last election. Its really kind of funny and good I think.

'Let's annoy our allies for no reason' is not a sensible strategy in the war on terror.
You of all people should have figured that out by now.

Also, Harper's incredibly unlikely to win. No-one likes his party.

True, I went last year, and we had to bring our own alcohol. In addition to that, he kept playing the same rap song over and over again, and only like three women turned up, and they were all fugly. And then some guy was sick all over my shoes.

Harper throws rather crappy parties. Remind me never to say "Yeah, I'll come" when he posts his "ZOMG COME TO MY HOUSE PARTY" note through my letterbox.

Funny thing is if Steven Harper were to throw a party that wouldn't be too far off. Except replace rap song with some boring non-rock oldie and some guy being sick on your shoes with having to listen to some old guy talk the whole time about "western alienation" and why gays should not be married.

Well..every year the Canadians and Americans have a contest of who is better at air superiority...Canada has beaten them just about every time. And as far as our ground troops go, if you put a equal number of ground troops from America and Canada in a contest, 9 times out of 10 Canada will win. Our troops our much better trained, even though America has really high tech stuff, the troops in america lack Canadian training.

Back on topic: If quebec seperates, what the hell happens then? They get screwed afterwards, and Canada is not going to look good to the international community. And the rest of the world is going to have a hard time recognizing Quebec as a seperate country...once they seperate, they have to make their own money, consitution (they can't use Canada's charter of rights anymore), they will have to make trade agreements with the world, it's like they want to screw themselves. And they will come to Canada for help, if they actually seperate, they should not recieve help from Canada, just to show them what they have done.

because they feel their culture is being stamped upon by the rest of canada or something.

and their french...

That pretty much sums of the situation.

Don't worry, America is always here to help our Canadian cousins if Quebec trys to seperate. I can see it now, "Operation: Canadian Freedom." ;)

Exactly. Separatists complain simply for the sake of complaining. You'd think that Canada was using the French for slave labor or something. Separatists are basically like a rebellious 16 year old that wants to move out of his parent's house. A few months after he does, he'll be crawling back to mommy and daddy because he's broke, kicked out of his apartment, and addicted to crack. Which is exactly what will happen if Quebec separates.

I sometimes hate living in my province.Guess which province I live in:dozey: I'll give you a hint, it's mostly French...
