It all started last Thursday when I received a phone call, it was from Comet Electronic Retailer. It was in response to the CV resume’ that I handed them the day before and they wish to see me next Tuesday (Today) about the application. They gave me a name and time. I responded by saying that I was available for this time, and I would meet up with the Manager.
Well, Today, I turned up. I went up to the sales counter and asked for the Manager and mentioned that I had an interview with her. She was interviewing someone else at the time, so I waited for 5 minutes. She finally came out of her office. She asked my given name, then asked my surname, which I both confirmed. That’s when something goes wrong.
She asked me if I had cancelled my interview. Imagine the horror on my face, I had been unemployed for the past few months and apparently I cancelled the one of the only few interviews. “No” I replied, sounded confused at the time. I wasn’t the only one who was confused, she was as well. She mentioned that I apparently phoned up a day later, mentioning that I wasn’t able to make it and I had to cancel. As a matter of fact I don’t even have their phone number, I could of easily walked in (The store is only down the road from me).
Anyway, with this minor problem resolved, she mentioned that they had already filled my time slot and I had a choice of either coming back in 20 minutes, or wait till half three. I told her that I’ll pop back in 20 minutes, and if there are any problems regarding this, I’ll come back for the half three interview. Believe me, with the amount of luck I’ve had in past interviews, I were not going to pass this opportunity up.
Anyway, after having a McDonalds (as you do), I came back. I had my interview, but after having 5 minute conversation with a fellow interviewee. I believe that the cancellation actually provided me with help with the interview. I gave first hand proof that I was Hard Working, Flexible and Friendly and a good Communicator.
Has there been any similar experiences happen to you in the past?
