It all started last Thursday when I received a phone call, it was from Comet Electronic Retailer. It was in response to the CV resume’ that I handed them the day before and they wish to see me next Tuesday (Today) about the application. They gave me a name and time. I responded by saying that I was available for this time, and I would meet up with the Manager.

Well, Today, I turned up. I went up to the sales counter and asked for the Manager and mentioned that I had an interview with her. She was interviewing someone else at the time, so I waited for 5 minutes. She finally came out of her office. She asked my given name, then asked my surname, which I both confirmed. That’s when something goes wrong.

She asked me if I had cancelled my interview. Imagine the horror on my face, I had been unemployed for the past few months and apparently I cancelled the one of the only few interviews. “No” I replied, sounded confused at the time. I wasn’t the only one who was confused, she was as well. She mentioned that I apparently phoned up a day later, mentioning that I wasn’t able to make it and I had to cancel. As a matter of fact I don’t even have their phone number, I could of easily walked in (The store is only down the road from me).

Anyway, with this minor problem resolved, she mentioned that they had already filled my time slot and I had a choice of either coming back in 20 minutes, or wait till half three. I told her that I’ll pop back in 20 minutes, and if there are any problems regarding this, I’ll come back for the half three interview. Believe me, with the amount of luck I’ve had in past interviews, I were not going to pass this opportunity up.

Anyway, after having a McDonalds (as you do), I came back. I had my interview, but after having 5 minute conversation with a fellow interviewee. I believe that the cancellation actually provided me with help with the interview. I gave first hand proof that I was Hard Working, Flexible and Friendly and a good Communicator.

Has there been any similar experiences happen to you in the past?

Er... what? Maybe they told you the time for someone else's interview slot, and that person cancelled? I wouldn't worry about it...

I'm not worried, me and the manager got on pretty well. There are a lot of job slots to fill too :)

She told me the same thing

ya I had a freelance job interview and the day of the interview the HR person emailed me to tell me not to bother to come in that day ..they had been all given pink slips that morning, the project was terminated and they were all out of job

also once went to another client meeting only to find the front door closed with a few emplyees standing around looking confused ...last I heard the owner had shut down over night and no one could find him to get their last pay cheques

Ouch, what was the project?

it was a series of videos to be produced for software training ..I had completed about half my part (still got paid) ..the software was cancelled

I remember job hunting when I finished school, turning up at an electronics company. Out of the 20 odd they had booked in I was the only one to show up. And I STILL got an aptitude test.

Curry wasn't hiring.

Still, the starting wage is £5. 40

I turned in one app, got interviewed the same day and got hired.
I had it pretty easy, but i only applied there cuz everyone who does gets hired

I never knew how much it sucked to stand for six hours though.

worst experience was my current job
sent in an application, got an interview
the interview went really well - they were really receptive and impressed dare I say and within a week confirmed i had the position if I could provide references other than the ones I had provided
Now being only a student I haven't exactly an employment record to speak of but I provided a school dean and a former employer (supermarket)
A week later they ring and say well yeah those references are not what we are looking for so I arrange new references - a school principal and another past employer (bank - work experience) by contacting them in person and requesting that years after leaving would they provide me with a reference (very awkward situation especially as I didn't really want either to be my references ever)
Days later the personnel manager is back on the phone saying yeah we need more references - I was ****ing pissed, it felt like they were screwing me around totally and told her no I didn't have anymore references - what was she expecting from someone still in fulltime education

Another week later and the phone rings. Apparently one of referees had supplied a reference and they wanted to offer me the job now. Yeah right - that managers had probably got her ass kicked for not having hired me already, not some bullshit about 'oh we finally got the references we needed.
i accepted the job anyway - I was looking forward to it when I applied.

Standing for extended periods is horrible, far worse than walking.

Times New Roman ftl.

Now I'm going to read your post.

Someone told me that I was hired 5 weeks ago & I would start in 3 weeks. This is the second time they have me a date and missed it by a long shot. I don't think it would be a good idea working for them & if I don't hear anything this week, I'm going to (in so many words) tell them where they can shove their job.

wasnt the interview that was the problem...I got a job at GAME at christmas while I was in another job...So i quit the first job and kept ringing GAME to see when I would be starting. They kept putting me off for ages until eventually they just said that the budget didnt allow them to take me on :(

From 2 jobs to no job in no time at all!

Hi and I remember I had a portfolio surgery (I do graphic design and to improve my portfolio it is good practise to have the pros look at your work and sort the wheat from the chaff) It was in kendal not that far from Carlisle in England where I lived at the time (last year) I asked if I could come down to see thier studio and recieve advice on my portfolio they said fine, day and time arranged. I turned up on the day in the town of Kendal and just as I approached the studio I got a phone call from them stating that they had to cancel the portfolio surgery because they had two clients that afternoon!!! God was I pissed that day !!!!

Even though it wasnt an interview I wasted about 15 quid to get there and spent the last week reprinting my portfolio!!!

I have plenty more where that came from if anyone wants to hear them?

just a thought

haha its not like i ever bothered to argue with him anyway. whats the point of arguing with someone who has that much time on their hands :)

No one else calls him an eskimo though. :(

He has more posts than most forums do all together.

Its wierd, considering that more than 50% of stuff Stern says actually makes pretty good sense.

BTW, I just got the Job at Comet, I start next Tuesday

He doesn't capitalize properly, 19,000+ posts of pure grammatical hell. Haha, just kiddin'. Lub you Sterny.

If you don't read slow, that looks like something else :|

As for gh0st being back, I believe he's playing Ep1, so there might be jumps back and forth between that and the forums
