So i get a blurry loading screen, the game starts up by itself and my guy is just standing in the middle of a courtyard. I cant move or anything. WTF is going on?

My system:

pentium 2.4 4m
512 meg ram
geforce 4200 go video card

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I just see a bunch of guards walking around and its really chunky...any ideas?

It's Main Menu, Einstein. Click on 'New Game'. Or, if you don't see any buttons, call tech support.

Then call the tech support. What part of my message did you not understand? Apparently, something's gone wrong, ranging from erroneous files to your gfx card's drivers. You should get a menu on top of the scene you described.

Tech support is last resort. I dont feel like holding for 45 mins. I thought maybe one of you guys experienced this issue...since it seems like EVERYONE is having issues with this game.

Try disabling that 3D scene, that's about everything I can think of. Open valve.rc file in your half-life 2/hl2/cfg folder and put a "//" (without ""'s of course) before "startupmenu".
BTW, I don't have issues with H-L2. ;)

Not really, everyone who is having issues are being loud about it. Everyone who hasn't got issues are quiet.

I'd call tech support.

Dude, that actually worked :). I knocked all the settings down to low and now I have a fully functional game. Thank you!
