I got HL2 retail on dvd but i cant install it because i get an error
The cabinet file 'hl22.cab' required for this install is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

Here is what i have tried
I have searched almost every HL2 forum for help but nothing works.
I installed it with only HL2,dident work
I installed it with HL2 and CS:source like it says on the disc cover, dident work
I tried to clean the disc, dident work
I tried a clean install after deleting all HL2 and Steam files,i have formated my hard drive too but no luck.
I got the latest drivers for both my CD and DVD player
Tried to copy all the files from DVD to HDD and made an install from that map, dident work
I tried to install it by running msconfig and disabling the 'load startup items' but still no luck.
I even tried to copy the "hl22.cab" from one of my sons HL2 disc but no luck.

Any ideas what to do???

Hmm...... so no one could solve this problem... maybe Greg from Valve could do it if he read this thread...

you should check www.steampowered.com if you haven't already. If you have no luck there then try to e-mail someone from vavle and see what they can do.

EDIT: nvm, i was looking for it in the steam forums and I found your post, might as well e-mail vavle.

EDIT2: Does your son have the cd/rom disks? If so try to install it with his disks and just use your cdkey to register. You proabably tried this but ya never know :stare:

Take the disc back to the store maybe? tell them you get read errors and that it must be damaged goods.
