Can't install WMP10?

I just bought FEAR and I have no sound in game because it needs a codec from windows media player. I can't install windows media player because for some reason its not compatible with my version of windows (which is winxp with sp 2....go figure). So either

A) does anyone know how to get the codecs without WMP or
B) how can i get WMP to friggin work?!

wtf??? since when do games need wmp codecs you sure thats what it said, and WMP10 is compatible with win xp sp2

just google the name of the codec and try and find a codec pack.

i tried but i cant find the name of the codec. the rest of FEAR seems to be messed up because of it too. i tried playing it without sound and i get the same clipping glitch right when i get out of the car in the beginning of the game and the graphics look like garbage, yet i have everything on high. i still think this all relates back to me not having WMP10 installed. any way i can get all the codecs for WMP without actually having WMP?

Probably a dodgy rip or something that you 'obtained' Don't know what to say really to help. Might be aswell to just buy the game..

LOL oh right, i thought that you said you hadn't. Oh well, then hmm thats pretty strange. You tried installing wmp10 through windows update, that always seems to work for me..

Any other update in the optional section for Windows Update related to DX9 or WMP10? I assume you have DX9.0c.

i have dx9.0c. and no optional section related to dx9 or wmp10.

Its a google cached page, and people seem to fix the same problem as you are having. Hope this helps, also make sure when you are copying files, make backups of the ones you are replacing, so something.dll could become something.dll.BAK just to be on the safe side incase it buggers up.
