Can't Jump High Enough in HL2:DM

When I am playing online in Deathmatch, I realize that I can jump only half as high as everyone else. Other people can jump on top of the wooden crates or onto certain ledges that don't really seem too high, whereas I can't. I can't even jump onto one of those green filing cabinets when they are laying flat down on their shortest side.

What is the problem here?

Note: In the regular offline game, I can jump normally.
I remember playing the original Half Life about a year ago and not being able to jump onto some obviously meant-to-be-jumpable steps, restricting me from getting to certain areas.

Press jump and then crouch.

That's it? I have been doing that, but it's kind of hard to do sometimes and seems to be somewhat glitchy. I didn't think it was meant to be done.

I think there might be a glitch with your game. You should be able to jump on lying cabinets without crouching. Is it like that for single-player?

uhh.... it is definety supposed to be done.

just play the hl training.

Nope, I can jump regularly in the single player. In the single player I can jump onto handrails and stuff without even doing the crouch technique.
