I just installed em and my comp like freezes when i hit the start bar, how sad, Im going back to the 3.8's

I haven't had a problem with the 3.9's.

Either have I.
I'm confused as how hitting the start bar involves graphic drivers...

I've had no problems with them either. It's funny, whenever anybody has new problems after installing the Catalyst 3.9's, they always blame it on the drivers... lmao.

Like this example, I'm gonna' go crazy and GUESS that this is NOT a drivers issue ;) *WINK WINK*.

How the hell could it be? X_o

I actually like the 3.9's. They've given me performance boosts on almost everything (can't think of anything that it hasn't boosted actually)...

So, hooray for ATi and the Catalyst 3.9 drivers!

Well i just bought a 9600SE yesterday and when i installed the card i dunno if its drivers or what but my arrow keys in games eighter are not reconized or in counterstrike they are switched to my shift keys
so now when i strafe its like im walk strafing. So if anyone can help plz do so. Also i was wondering what the difference between the 9600,9600 Pro , 9600SE, and the 9600XT. Is the 9600SE anygood?

I don't even feel like upgrading to the 3.9's until I know they are 100% stable. I upgraded to the 3.8's when they came out and it would overheat in just about every game I played. I reverted back to the 3.7's and it works great now. I have a Radeon 9800 btw.

I'm also using Cat 3.9, no problems whatsoever. (well, except Morrowind crashing a little here and there, but I've had that across all drivers)

Btw, the 9600SE is the budget variant of the budget 9600, whereas the Pro and XT are the overclocked versions. Not very good in other words, but not to poor. Think of it as a FX5200. Though its probably faster still :)

Hehe... 9600SE = a bad choice. Sorry, just had to inform ya', but I'm sure you already knew :).

meh, haven't had any problems with the 3.9s other than the fact that my monitor wont shut down any more. it jsut goes to screensaver and stays there. :(

Do you think that could be a problem with the drivers? I've never heard of that happening to anyone before... kinda' creepy.

you can never be sure. Look at the asian language packs, their known for causing problems with certain types of text boxes in certain opengl applications making the background bright yellow and the text white. and language packs to my knowledge don't have any files for drivers to work with displays/video cards

its a funny old world, language packs causing display errors, Rik Waller getting anywhere atall on pop idol. Richard and Judy being on TV period. Venessa Feltz dramatic weight gain/loss/gain, mac computers, linux, 14 year olds with $50k software they claim to have bought.

yup, this world is full of things that don't make sense

The monitor is connected via the gfx card so who knows?

And the gcard is connected to the mobo! And the mobo is connected to the PSU!!! And the PSU... OMFG THERES A BUG IN THE LOCAL NUCLEAR POWER PLANT!!!11!!

There are SO many things that can go wrong. The driver is just a small piece of it. You have a mobo, which could cause incompatabilites with just about everything. You have sound cards, which can cause erratic behaviour when IRQs are being shared. You have PSUs which can fluctuate at any time. Memory banks that can be faulty.
Add Windows on top of that, and its about as stable as trying to balance a HK on the gun barrel (which actually is possibly with Havoc physics ;)).

80-90% of what people claim are driver bugs (global to both ATI and Nvidia camps) are either software problems or other hardware failures.

Does anyone know if the 3.9's fix that graphic glitch you get with a 9800 Pro in Call of Duty with the screen blurr effect?

Cat 3.9s seem fine to me, only advantage I can see is that I can overclock a little further than the 3.7/3.8s.

The GPU temperatures went down considerably with 3.9s, that's why I think you get a better o/c chance.

everything on my comp was fine till installed the 3.9's like when i tried to play call of duty with the 3.9's it gives FATAL ERROR: Couldn't Load open gl, I was good job ATi you guys have Award winning drivers. Sometimes i think i would be better off installing nvidia drivers on my ati card.

Cod works fine on the 3.9s with my card.

Even with the slow motion blur effects like when you get shell shocked?

And do you have a 9800 Pro, i hear that's the only card that has that problem.

..admittedly, I've only played the demo :)

And no, I have a 9700 :(

I haven't got the 3.9's yet but if they improve as much as the 3.8's did then I'm thrilled.

With the 3.7s and 3.6s if I played Half-Life 1024x768 with 6x AA and 16x AF on my 9800np I'd get an fps of 40-80fps.

With the 3.8s I get a consistant 90-110.

That seems rather low for just regular old Half-Life... isn't it? Or am I just bein' a stupidshit? :) << Probably the second one, heh.

If Chris is talking about STEAM, it wouldn't surprise me. STEAM really screwed things up FPS wise in HL/CS

Tell me about it

I just installed the 3.9's and re-ran some benchmarks (previously had the 3.7's installed).
With the 3.9's i went up 100 marks in 3dmark2003 and went down 200 marks in 3dmark2001.

I have no problems with the Cat 3.9 drivers/control panel. I have no idea why anyone would have such a problem just by hitting the start button equaling a computer lock-up. Indeed, how sad, perhaps you should reformat. :(

Also, my system specs:

AthlonXP 3000+ 400MHz FSB
Asus A7N8X 2.0
ATI 9800 Pro 128
2x512 pc3200 DDR RAM
WindowsXP Pro

Call of Duty is known to have problems with the cat 3.8-3.9 drivers, the full version that is. If you want to play COD without problems on your radeon 9800p card, roll back to the 3.7 drivers. :)

I run the COD demo many times and I had problems with 3.8 but None with 3.9...:)

That's eccentric and ironic.....I had no problems with any of the ati drivers I've used with the COD demo I got.

well, i just got the DNA 3.9 drivers and all the issues I had are gone :)

Since i switched to the 3.9's my CoD is crashing A LOT.

I'll roll back to 3.7 now.
