I only like cats and tiny dog breeds... and in most of those cases I would pick the cat. Dogs usually seem less intelligent (I'm not sure if it's true... but that's what I've gathered from my experience), they slobber all over everything (including me), they bark, and they stink. My current cats are awesome... compared to our last cat who, I am convinced, was a reincarnation of Satan himself.

I have a cat AND a dog. I like my dog more because it responds to me, like if i call it or ask it something the dog will accually acknowledge im talking to him, by like taking a lil step towards me or something like that. (hes really well trained).

The cat just gets annoying because it jumps all over my kitchen counter and its always sticking its ass in my face, plus it bites...but then again it has to if it wants to survive with my dog.

It's tough for me to say. I find both cats and dogs very cute, and dogs are very very loving and loyal... but sometimes they are too needy and you need to be around them all the time, whereas with a cat, you apparently don't need to babysit it all the time as much as it will likely not get lonely or needy as easily.

That's just because dogs are bigger and stronger.

A seeing-eye cat? You'll have a hard time guiding someone if they can barely feel you pulling or if they keep accidentally jerking you around.

A police cat? A cat isn't big enough or threatening enough to take down a criminal. Police dogs take people down by jumping on them or dragging them down by the arm/leg.

Do I need a pet that can do those things? No. Also, big dogs don't make good pets in big cities. Your best bet is either a cat or some kind of small dog like a Chihuahua, Chinese Crested (ugly little bastards), Italian Greyhound, Pomeranian, Poodle (toy), Border Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer... well, you get the idea.
