CD more reliable than Steam?

I have Steam and are getting a few problems and wonder if it is worth dishing out for the CD version?

Well my DVD retail went really smoothly. Put disc in, clicked Next a few times, browsed forums while it installed. Finito. Although i'm getting a "Subscription Pending" notice from Steam after typing in my CD-key. Just gotta wait until the servers get less swamped I guess.

Downloading 4.5 GB data is risky, some bytes can get corrupted and you are ****ed. This happens with some people. On CD/DVD data transmission is pretty reliable.

i have bought the dvd release and it gets as far as 'click to visit web page for registration' and then the web page wont load.

Its pathetic.

I have bought the game, I should be able to play it, this registration thing is nonsense.

you dont need to do product registration right away... you can go on to the next step w/o registering the game.. it will post a link in the start menu that will allow you to do it at a later time

as of the cdkey steam process that wont happen till all the files are installed
