EXCITING UPDATE: It’s a AAA RPG of Cyberpunk, the pen and paper RPG. It is being made by Witcher and Witcher 2 veterans. They’re saying stuff like “Advanced RPG mechanics” and “mature content”. Customisable characters, different classes. Lots of weapons. Non-linear. “Cutting edge looking game”. And also “not a game for everybody, for mature audiences.”
Cyberpunk RPG’s creator Mike Pondsmith is there, talking about it: “I love Bladerunner, I love that kind of future.” Yeah. That’s the stuff.
ORIGINAL STORY: The mystery sci-fi game from The Witcher devs CD Projekt Red is about to be announced over here. I’ll get more details up here as they arrive. All we have so far is the teaser image of a punk with techno-glasses and a gun (above) and the knowledge that it will be some kind of cyberpunkian thing.

HNNNNNNGGGG. Need I say more?

Sounds good, don't know about the pen and paper game but at least it's from competent developers. Just wonder what's happening with Witcher 3 though...

I'm intrigued. They're an excellent developer so my hopes are high for a good game. The Witcher games were great, but the setting never really grabbed me. A cyberpunk game may stand a better chance though.

First bit of concept art:

Orange again?

God damn it.

EDIT: oh and don't forget the mandatory "high tech" hexagonal patterns everywhere.

Honeycombs are high tech as **** don't even think about messing with the atomic power of hexagons or bees will sting one into your goddamn face mother****er i swear to god i'll fight u

Not a Witcher guy but I have enormous respect for these guys. Excited to see what this turns into.

This and two new Shadowrun computer games has forced me to cut off my left index finger to make sure I am not delusional or hallucinating.

I'm afraid you're still delusional; you actually cut off your right index finger.

Terrible song choice except for the "anyone anywhere anyone anywhere" at the end. But the trailer still makes me excited for the game.

[edit] Apparently the release date is "off in 2015" and could be subject to further delays. This makes me a sad man.

Neat. I like that a lot better than mechs.

I kinda liked the song.

I guess it's just my inner music critic / asshole coming out - lyrics are bad and stupid, shitty boring chord progression etc etc. As far as "licensed song for a videogame trailer" goes, it was a pretty good choice.

This game looks like it will be the funs. Or actually, I gathered nothing from that trailer whatsoever, and will most likely forget within the next few hours that I even watched it.

I generally don't listen to lyrics, so maybe thats why I didn't mind it so much. Literally when listening to music I don't actually "hear" a single word in most music, I just hear the sound of the voice. If someone replaced the voice with another instrument with the same notes/tempo/whatever, I'd probably not even notice in most songs. As an instrumental piece I rather liked this song.

For the longest time I was exactly the same way, Krynn. It wasn't until I started listening to rap that I was able to hear lyrics without having to be a tryhard about it.

Does this secret message from this frame pique your interest good sir? Apparently lots of the things in the trailer are there for reasons.
Do you like our latest creation? We certainly hope so :) Yo may remember that we sometimes send you guys secret messages like this. It's a great way for us to speak right to you instead of burying ourselves in corporate mumbo-jumbo so let's begin!

First of all - have you noticed all the details in our teaser (yes, it's a teaser. We'll make a proper trailer in the future)? If you know the Cyberpunk setting there are some things you can spot, like implants - look for the weapon hands and the real skin - corporate emblems that should look familiar and more. Happy hunting!

You're probably curious about the release date. It's currently scheduled a way off in 2015 but in truth the delivery date is more like "when it's done". We will release Cyberpunk to you when we're convinced it is nothing but pure, refined, unadulterated awesome. We want it to be the most kick ass futuristic RPG ever - OK, maybe this sounds pretty bully, but it is our actual goal! You judge if we deliver it!

Oh - and you may wonder why we announced our game so early before the release. The reason is that we're still building our dev team so if you are a talented dude or dudette willing to work in a really different company (gamers rule & boring corporate stuff drools!) on a super ambitious project, send us your application right now! [email protected]

So you want to know what kind of game Cyberpunk 2077 will be? The short description is that it will be a story-heavy, nonlinear, open world RPG based on the well known Cyberpunk pen&paper system and setting. Building open world games is something we are mastering right now and we believe that properly joining nonlinear gameplay with an excellent story telling will bring a totally new quality. Mmm... We'll tell some more about it soon!

And that's not all that's new. We are about the reveal our other project which is much closer to being completed and yes, it will also be a fully open-world game with an intense story. You can probably guess the game we're talking about :) On the 5th of February it will all be clear.

So stay tuned as we will have quite a lot to show and tell you soon!

We are waiting for you on our newly created forum called Afterlife - what other name could we have chosen for it?

That concept shot REALLY looks like DXHR.

I really didn't expect Witcher 3 to be further along than Cyberpunk. I'm glad though, especially since it's being called open world.

Colour me bored. Slow-mo bullets, dumb music, gratuitous fem-bot. Terrible trailer.

Also open-world is generally yawns.

This looks awesome to me. One of those ones that I seem to have completely missed... Definitely looks like something I'd play. 2015 is a bit far off still though, specially if it's been in development for a while already... I do hope this doesn't end up like STALKER, with that line about 'more like "when it's done"' and takes 3 or 4 years longer to come out than originally due.

Yeah, the music could've been better and I'm generally not sure what happened in the trailer (the cops are shooting at a fem-bot about to get shot in the back of her head by some dude?). But trailer is any sign of how the visual art direction will look like, it's looking pretty sweet.

The trailer looked like it was a daydream the girl was having, as it appears she was part of the police unit when she opens her eyes. Maybe she was dreaming about what her life would be if she went rogue? Or perhaps putting herself in the place of the target she's en route to intercept? Maybe that's going to be the arc the story follows; cyborg cop goes rogue against the system and the system hunts you through the game.

According to some random comment on Reddit the cops have a cyborg squad who deal with cyborgs who go crazy and often add to their numbers by reprogramming the crazy cyborgs, so the trailer is showing how a crazy cyborg lady became a crazy cyborg squad member.

Yeah I saw that. Christ.

CDProjekt are responsible for some of my favourite RPGs ever, so obviously I have high hopes for this project. Really like the art style too. Shame it's such a long way off, but plenty of games to tide me over until then.

The site I saw this on had this to add.

This teaser for Cyberpunk 2077 shows how the Psycho Squad might acquire a new member. The Psycho Squad specializes in combating “psychos” – individuals who overuse implants and substances that boost or otherwise alter the human body. There comes a point when they overdose on these innovations, and their bodies start to rebel against their biological body parts as well as against all things organic around them. Simply put, they start killing people, who they now derisively call 'meatbags.'
Meatbags, lol. That's so saturday morning cartoon cyborg.

Sounds awesome, but the term 'AAA' is synonymous with shit most of the time, so I wish they wouldn't use it.

Very cool article, I love looking at concept art for environments. I find it incredible the amount of detail people put into these pieces... even down to annotation as to where people will enter/exit, places for enemies etc. It's so cool. Reminds me of when I was a kid and i'd draw out those crazy army scenarios on paper.

Also... damn that chick was hot -- that's something I didn't need to see early this morning.
