Is it really? It's zoomed by, none of this around you would even have existed had Half-life not had such a huge impact! Even more incredible is that Valve is now offering Half-Life for just 98 cents in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the company's debut title. This offer extends till 21st November.[br]Also be sure to check out this great timeline of 'The History of Valve' Planet Half-life have put together, it's a really good read - HERE[br]Lastly, Moddb has put together a nice article summing up the journey too, but also a run down of their top 5 unofficial Half-life mods, Natural Selection topping their list - see here

Yes, this is a special offer just for 19th, 20th and 21st. Why not buy a couple, as early xmas presents and gift them out to friends, they'll never know ;)

Jesus I first played the game in 2002 and that seems like ages ago, I can't imagine for those playing since the release.

January 10, 2008 ? [...]and that Half-Life 2: Episode Three will take longer than the previous two episodes to develop because it will be a much longer, much more epic game than any installment prior, and that in no uncertain terms it will be the conclusion to the Half-Life series as we know it, tying up all of the loose ends.

Wait, what? Where was the original source for this?

We should get some news for Episode 3 by now, anything. Whether they quit making it or they are working hard at it. We deserve it.

I don't care if it's not our birthday >_>.

I read that somewhere too. He basically said Episode 3 will not be the end of the Half-Life series, no joke :D

Nice timeline... Doom 3 being a tough competition for Half life 2? Nonsense, it was never really at the same level with half life 2, it was nice and all, but nowhere near acclaimed as much as HL2. A little more info on the release of hl2 to equal up with the info on hl1 release would've been nice. The point that "many people were having problems with steam when hl2 came out" was brought up a billion times, and come on, it wasn't THAT BAD, only a few people had that trouble... LONG LIVE THE HALF LIFE SERIES!

Honestly, who woulda thought that the 2 best games created would be in the same franchise...

OMG Halo rox Doom n Halflief r for Pc nubs. Rel gamerz play on consolez!!!!1

Happy birthday, you gem of a game you!

Happy birthday Half-Life!

You've been good to us these past years.

I can just about remember my dad and my brother first playing it when I was about 8 or something. I used to always watch them play!

This is real, Half Life 1 only for 99 cents... haha i must buy it now.
Anyway Happy Birth day Valve!!

God I remember my first taste of HL; the Opposing Force demo. Scared the shit out of me. I loved it so much. Must have played it through 20 times.

Edit: History of Valve article: Wasn't Quiver the game bassed off the Mist, not Prospero? Also, I thought GoldSrc came from the Quake 2 engine, not the Quake engine.

COOOOOOOOOL!

Its official. The coolness cannot be matched.

I think i'll get these as christmas presents for some friends. Yes, i am that cheap.

Also, I thought GoldSrc came from the Quake 2 engine, not the Quake engine.
It was an amalgamation of elements from both engines. But it definitely wasn't a straight port from the Quake II engine.

Congrats to Valve and thanks for 10 years of awesome games. :)

It's weird to look at a time where a lot of people despised Valve.

Now playing: Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal
via FoxyTunes

I remember I used to frequent a LAN cafe before I got my own computer (about 6 years ago). I started playing CS during 1.5 and once 1.6 rolled around people bashed the hell out of steam (granted it was buggy and crashed sometimes.. but still).

I've always loved it and I'm glad it grew into what it is now.

Woo! Go Valve!

Steam was wank when it first released. That's the truth.

Steam was wank when it first released. That's the truth.

It is true that the service was a god-awful-broken-mess in its first years of existence. I never take the time to appreciate it now, and I must say with pride that it is simply perfect now.

I never had any problems with Steam, even back when I first started using it.

Yeah Steam was a frustrating pos at first, but, how about the old way of connecting to an online game through Sierra WON.

Now that was a pain in the ass, especially in the 56k days. I don't even think QuickMatch ever even worked once for me, I always got thrown into an empty server.

I used to love trying to connect to a server and not knowing why it wouldn't, only later to find out a patch had been released. So then you got to go on a wild treasure hunt for a mirror link that worked at faster that 5kb/sec

CL_FLUSH_ENTITY_PACKET ftw!!!

I'll be celebrating by not redownload a HL2 game onto my computer, because apparently my connection dissaproves of Steam downloads.

Quoted for truth.

About Steam, my respect to Valve - they pretty much made me eat my words. I complained about the early versions of Steam and hated it, now I really like the service and also use it for some non-Valve games. Although my one complaint still stands, which is (for Valve's games, at least) the inability to roll back to a previous version in case an update breaks something for you.
