change from XSI to 3dsmax?

It seems like 3dsmax is the most popular modelling program. It would be easier to get help/tutorials. what do you all think?

Also, what is the difference? just mainly the interface? is the actual model processing the same? like 3ds max you can make primitive's (like boxes, cubes, spheres, etc) and also create vertices/edgses/polygons and change them around?

I have used 3ds max for a while and found it really easy to learn, i tried using XSI and found it really akward........really, really dodgy controls, especially the camera controls with all the gay keys like z to move camera e.t.c, prefer max anyday.

I can't understand why people find XSI difficult. I took to it like a duck to water. Mind you I'd been using Lightwave before then. Max users seem to often find Maya easier to use

max - Maya
lightwave - XSI

Same here, though my first real 3D training was with SI3D so that does help. Max for me was the most confusing system, though it does have similarities to Hammer so maybe that is why people like it.

Just a general tip I've found with applications other than XSI, they are often limited in their keyboard shortcuts. It may not seem like much but remember each mouse click saved keeps carpal tunnel away. So set up shortcuts as soon as you are comfortable with the interface.

have you ever tried holding down "s" key in xsi and moving the mouse while holding down any button mouse?

Not sure this was in response to me, but yes I use the S key all the time, I really like the ability to tap or hold a key makes things really nice. Before XSI I used the O,P and Z keys though it isn't any harder than learning FPS controls for the first time.
