Changing soundcard, need some advice.

So I'm about to change soundcard from my integrated AC97 adapter in the motherboard to an external version that has better sound quality. So my question is, what should I do to avoid slowing down the system or create conflicts from the previous hardware before inserting and installing the new soundcard?

The obvious is probably disable the onboard function of the AC97 soundcard in BIOS, remove any software afiliated with the soundcard currently installed and removing drivers.

I have to admit, despite my experience with computers, I've never removed drivers on a certain harddrive so I wouldn't mind getting some advice on this particular issue.

Also, anything else I shold take into account? Thanks in advance.

Go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager and disable it there. This disables the drivers(and the card) in Windows, so if you want to switch back you can simply re-enable them there.

i would shut it off in the bios anyways, windows can sometimes detect it later on.

Yeah. I did that. Anyway. The card has arrived and I've installed it and disabled the AC97 one in BIOS. Everything works fine now and I'm enjoying incredibly awesome bass sound. Thx for all the help.

uh yea there is, it can really depend on the quality of speaker or headphones you have to really tell the difference.
