I have finished this game soo long ago... but I had a problem with chapter 5: Black Mesa East that I was forced to almost skip the whole chapter. Ok it goes like this, when I go to the elevator with that traitor woman ( I forgot her name), All she does is stand near the elevator and not go inside. I tried doing something in the config, and thought maybe there's just something wrong in the AI, but that traitor woman was still standing there! I have already re-installed the game some times and my pc was already reformatted long ago. I also encountered this problem when Alyx was also just standing in the elevator(in Chapter 1) and doing nothing. But only encountered Alyx's elevator problem twice. ..

PLEASE NEED HELP!!!!! HOW DO I MAKE THE DAMN WOMAN MOVE!!!??:flame: (or let me go through chapter 5!!!!!)

It's a bug that should have been resolved a long time ago. Is your version updated?

Left-click Steam tray icon
Select "Games"
Select "My Games" tab
Right-click on "Half-Life 2"
Select "Properties"
Select "Updates" tab

Is it set to "Always keep this game up to date..." ?

I'm sorry but because I only play HF2 story mode only, i didnt update it.:upstare: I forgot about updating it! LOL. Can you give me a link?

Well, Steam should do this automatically. Have you used my small walkthrough to check if it's up to date? Just set it to update automatically and restart Steam if it doesn't start in a few minutes.

<What is Steam anyway???? I'm sorry man I only play HF2 and that's it. (I'm a NOOB hahah) So would it be ok if you'd explain me about steam. Is it an editing software? :cheese: ... and besides I should belong to another forum. hahah>

Hey I have steam now, what should I do?

Right I'll bring you up to speed :p

Steam is a progream developed by Valve, and is used as a verification that you have bought the game. You make a Steam account, and assign a CD-key to it. That CD-key is then bound to it permanently (you can change it to another Steam account in 30 days after purchase, after that you have to pay 10$). No CD-key can be used twice. This makes Steam a very effective anti-piracy program. There are a few programs that try to emulate Steam, but they're very, very buggy and won't work as well as the actual Steam.

Steam is essentially a delivery system. You can buy games online, and they are then added to your account. There are also a few third-party games (not made by Valve) that are sold over Steam, like Rag-Doll Kung Fu and Darwinia. More games have been announced, many use the Source Engine.

The Source Engine is the engine Half-Life 2 uses. It is also used for Counter-Strike : Source and Day Of Defeat : Source. But it is also very customizable. It is designed so, that important parts can be swapped out for better, improved versions without having to rewrite the entire engine, making it very flexible.

This is also the reason Half-Life 2 has one of the most active modding communities in the world. Over 1,000 modifications have been announced, and a few 40 are already playable. A few third-party developers have already licensed the Source Engine to make their game. The first one was Vampire : The Masquerade : Bloodlines by Troika Games (which is now sadly bankrupt :().

Anyway, Steam is also a very effective piece of software for updating and upgrading games. No longer looking for an update on the internet, downloading it, and installing it. Just log into Steam and sit back and relax.

You select if you want updates or not, but the retail version of Half-Life 2 is quite buggy, with many crashes and faulty code, so you'll have to leave it to run for a few hours (sometimes even a day) to have all the updates and extra content.

Steam is 56K friendly. Many forum members here are 56K'ers, and many of them have nothing but praising words for Steam. They can easily download large updates of a gigabyte or more. (It just takes a while :p)

Steam can also be told to perform various tasks from a command line. For instance, steam://validate/220 will check Half-Life 2 for errors and corrupted files. You can also start an installation procedure via a command line, or reset the video mode of a game through a command line. Steam is very flexible, effective, and normally doesn't take more than 10-15 Megabytes in your memory.

Anyways, that's Steam for you in a nutshell.

For your question: You should already have Steam installed, because you can't run Half-Life 2 without it. Are you using the pirated version? If so, shame on you and go buy this game!

WoW Thanks for all that info! I was really brought up to speed as you said! . Well, I just borrowed a HF2 cd from my friend and I think it was pirated.:farmer:. Well maybe I'll just be getting an original copy.:O.. And besides I'm from Asia. And you know or maybe not know that almost everywhere you look, you can find pirated crap! From music to movies to games! :naughty: (but not all asian countries). Thanks again and I hope I was not taking so much of your time!

Thanks again and I hope I was not taking so much of your time!
Not at all. And Half-Life 2 is a very good game, and I'm surprised you've gotten this far in the game without it failing on you (The pirated version is riddled with bugs and faulty code that isn't in the official version).

Now go buy it and come back when you have it, and I'll show you some cool modifications (Like a game where you have to hunt an invisible guy, and he'll slit your throat if you don't watch out and he can crawl on walls :O), and all the modifications are free :D

Oh man. Getting an original copy of the game would be the hardest thing to do for me. In here it costs about $35 - $40. I would take me 2-3 months of my allowance to get the money to that game! :x . But I'll still get it one way or another.:frog: We're so used to pirated here that buying an original copy would be too expensive. LOL. In fact, I even had pirated HF1 again from my friend and played mods with it.

Yeah, but you'll have a tough time doing that with Half-Life 2 I'm afraid :D
You could wash someone's car or something to make some more money fast

I am also from a country with rampant piracy... but I can say that it's possible for you to get a legal copy. 40$ is a bit expensive, but realistic. However, you can make that money fast if you don't have a job. Ask your parents for 20$ and you'll clean up the house for a month or whatever, then wash somebody's car or whatever people in your country do for opportunist jobs, and you should have the money fast.

I prefer dancing on the streetside with a hat laying out for coins.

Good thing I'm such a good dancer...............

hah.

Yes, right now.

GOGOGO

No, I just wondered.

Well, since he's not asking for help with a pirated edition now that he knows it's pirated, just saying that piracy is more common than owning a legit copy in his part of the world (which, from what I've heard, is VERY true) I don't think there's really a problem there. I mean, you wouldn't ban someone because of where they live.
