So I like taking pictures of 'urban decay'...as does everybody else. And two weeks ago I found this AWESOME, abandoned strip mining facility about 35min outside of town. It's basically a junk yard, which leads up to the big building, and then thousands of feet of open prairie all around.

Well my g/f and I decided to go out there this weekend to take some pictures, so we park her car, jump the fence and start walking down the trail. As we begin to enter the junkyard section I see like a 2005 red ford f150. We pause and duck behind some trees, we look around and see if we can see anybody, but we don't. There's hundreds of "no trespassing" and "trespassers will be prosecuted" signs everywhere, so it was pretty obvious we weren't allowed to be there.

Once we realize he's probably inside some building we jog past that section and start walking around taking pictures. Well I wanted to go left and check out what was on the edge of prairie and my g/f wanted to walk around the junkyard some more. So I get a few thousand feet out and stop on top of this hill to check out the view when I see...the red pickup.

I lay down in the high grass and watch as the red pickup drives around to where my g/f was walking. He's driving real slow, and I'm figuring he was going to leave, saw our car, and turned around to find us. Well I watch as he lazily cruises through the junk yard, pausing every now and then and then moving on. He starts to leave so I get up and run down the hill to a dry creek bed that circles the facility. As I run down the hill I see my g/f run out from a tree line, heading towards me.

We meet in the creek bed and she said the red truck stopped up the road a little bit. So we start to follow the creek bed and look for him. We find him sitting in his car on the road that leads out of the facility. So we get smart, and figure we'll follow the creek bed the other direction, till it ends at the other side of the prairie then hike through the woods, and come out on the road away from him.

It takes maybe an hour to hike through the woods, when following the road would have taken 15 minutes. But we finally arrive towards where the gate is and guess what....the red truck is now parked, blocking he front gate. So we had three options basically:
-wait till the red truck got bored and left (not likely because he's been waiting for us for an hour and a half)

-follow the woods, come out on the main road, and walk to the car...which means we have to walk in front of him and he'll obviously know it's us he's been looking for.

-back track, cross the road, and approach our car from the other side (so he can't see us), jump in the car and drive off like a bat out of hell before he has a chance to follow us.

Of course, we choose option 3. On the other side of the road is THICK woods, and slight prairie (it has small bushes), so we start to jog, bush to bush, across this section and then suddenly we hear his truck start. We freeze and drop. I see him turn his truck around and then turn it off, but he's coasting...he's in neutral and he's coasting down the hill. That sneaky bastard is hoping he can sneak up on us because we wont hear him!

So we wait till he's out of view, then make a mad dash the last 100 feet to the car, to hell with thorn bushes! we both run through, tearing our clothing slightly, cutting ourselves everywhere and getting thorns stuck in our skin. We jump in the car, start it up, and take off!

I didn't really get any pictures...due to constantly being chased, but here's a few of the shots...I wish I knew what he wanted to do to us...he was certainly going to great lengths to try and catch us, so I think he was going to do more than "hey you kids! don't do that again!" and then leave.

Great story, needs more action, though.. I bet it had more action, you're just not telling.. Like when you guys ran through the thorn bushes, it ripped your GF's shirt, and you guys starting going at it, right? Or before you got into your car, the driver caught you, he punched you, you punched him, then he knocked you down and started choking you, then your GF came behind him with a big pipe in her hands, hit him in the head, and while he was dazed you guys drove off quickly.. Right? Right?

Please tell me I'm right!

Seems to me the pics were worth it, though. They are great!

Thats some really diverse terrain you have there. A lot of which looks like it would be difficult to hide in.

damn sounds like you could make a movie outta this :D
you should totally go back there..

for science!!

How fun - haven't had an adventure like that in a long time.

The pics remind me of Stalker.

He would have killed you. This is no lie. You live in Alabama.

I agree. You were lucky the guy didn't have a gun and was a homicidal maniac who was really hiding bodies in that place somewhere. :O

Then again...maybe he was. :O

Would you and your gf still have went in if he had a sign up that said,

"Trespassers will be shot!
Survivors will be shot again!"

Because the rest of the worlds rejects have kept coming here since it was formed.

Is this to imply the thread was too long?
Why do people post gibberish in response to some threads?

Anways, nice story and I enjoyed the photos. Makes me wonder what he would have done had he caught you. Creepy :x

gs;ap probably means Great Story and Pictures.

I made a small map of the routes that occurred:
red dot = our car
blue track = red truck
green trail = our route

If you see the two white buildings, that's where I first saw the red truck, he was parked right there in between them. When he started to come after us he was driving around by the facility (the building in the middle of the prairie). He was also first waiting for us by that lake...which is why we walked to the other side of the prairie to start hiking through the woods.

The green X is when the red truck started to move, and we froze and hit the dirt...as soon as he got to where his blue trail ends, we couldn't see him anymore so we ran the rest of the way to the car...it's a lot farther than it looks, plus it was through all those thorn bushes.

Uh-uh. Notice how the post above mine had the same initials? Raziaar got it spot-on.

I hope you realise how dangerous a abandoned mining facility can be. If you dropped down a shaft it could days/weeks before you are found.

more pics of your girlfrend will be apreciated..........................whit less clothing off course...

This weekend? And you posted one of the pictures in here in the "a photo a day thread" on the 3rd of March. Explain THAT.

This weekend was my 2nd time going there, and since the first weekend we didn't get chased by anybody we got to take a lot more pictures. So some of those shots are from the first weekend.

Except for the last time we saw him (driving away from the gate), we were always viewing him through trees and shrubbery or he was too far away. I guess I could have, we just were getting a bit too excited about why this guy wouldn't just leave us alone. It was starting to get to sunset and we had been rained on twice (fortunately we had camera bags and tree cover).

Awesome pics. That one across the water is just... wow.

That story sparked memories of hiding in a ditch for ages at a time when a friend and I would hop the fence to his neighbour's property for some exploring. Acres of farmland and a ton of derelict old buildings, fun stuff. Just don't let the old codger spot you. :p

Cue hill-billy chase music

check out your first pic, in the right hand fork of the road there is a figure standing erect. that your missus?

well people seem to like the pictures so I'll post a few more I guess...these are just a few random ones...nothing special. The place really does remind me of stalker, there's even a power plant out there (far left on the panorama). It's just so quiet...we had lunch out there and it's crazy to just sit and there's nothing but wind in the trees. I thought it was awesome.

yea, the sky is messed up, I did a half-ass job in photoshop...
