Cheat console not showing up??

ok, I know i shouldn't have bought the french version of the game (I didn't even know it was in french before the installation started...)

I did unlock the dev console in the option keyboard advanced menu... but NO key will make the console pop... is it suppose to look like the one in starcarft let say or something completly different?

The key should be the ` or ~ key. Right below esc.
If that doesn't work, is your version legal?
Do you have steam?
Do you know what steam is?

yeah my version is legal, yes i have steam and i'm pretty sure what steam is... (how ever invented steam SUCKS!... for the dane cook's fans!)

but what does it have to do with my problem?
 
You should be able to change the language of your game from Steam's menu (View -> Settings -> Language -> english). I'm not 1005 sure it'll change HL2's language too, but it should do really.
As for your console problem, it may depend on what keyboard setup you're using. If you're using the American keyboard layout in Windows, try changing it to the UK layout. This does actually change a few things, and might solve your problem.
If not, maybe binding it?
bind "`" "console"
bind "`" "+console"
maybe, but I really don't think that's it.

uh..lets think for a second...dont you think.. hed need the console to um.. oh i dont know... do things like... bind keys for instance.. ?! (btw, that doesnt work )

after you change it to a language you can understand, and you have your keyboard set up ( which really shouldn't matter but what do i know ).

make sure the developers console is enabled ( check off ) under the advanced keyboard options.

If it is and the key that should work "~" isnt working ( i believe its called the tilde key ) you can type cheats in using cfg files.

go to your steam folder= (default) C:\Program files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\*your username*\half-life 2\hl2\cfg

in the "config.cfg" file, open it up using note pad and scroll all the way down to the bottom. add sv_cheats 1 ( thats a must have for cheats in half life 2 ). after that, just hit enter and add a new cheat in(do this so that if you want to remove one you dont have to look to hard, this way it will be on its own separate line). you can also add bind lines in there as well, my fav. is : (all that is red) bind TAB(or your key of choice) "impulse_101"

Actually binds can be done through the config.cfg
But yes, the dev console certainly would help in the matter of gaining access to the dev console :D
 
Considering that people have come here with a pirated french version they want "help" with, and that lynchyboy123 is only "pretty sure" about Steam, I'd say he has a bit of explaining to do to prove he is not a dirty pirate.

Steam is such a shock to the system (and a potential pain in the ass) that once ANYONE has been forced to install it, create an online account, log on etc - you NEVER forget about Steam, and you sure as hell know about it. "Pretty sure" my ass. Sounds like he has only heard about Steam, not used it himself.
 
It's nice to see that the fact I have a good point offends so many of you.

Either way he makes a great replacement; a pretentious arsehole who accuses everyone of having pirated the game.

i fail to understand how that would prove anything, have you ever heard of... uh... photoshop?
 
I'm sure our highly observant members would be able to see a fake steam list... I'm sure. Right?

But honestly, I think this guy has a legal version. I also think Stucco is Shasta. Doesn't he?
