check this > CITY 17 an idea stolen?!?!

nice find... but I think there are far too many possibilities for an "alien invasion" game for anything to be stolen, sadly...
 
I played that game once didn't care for it much, If you read that article at all "corky 17" is a code word. and the city is a replica of an american city, when city 17 is quite european looking.

it's a training place for russian soldiers. City 17 appears to be a real city.

the only thing similar to me are the words future, aliens and the number 17

i realised this issue when i read hl2 preview in one of the polish news
so maybe the name of city 17 isnt just considence "stolen idea":D??
 
You know, there are a lot of sci-fi books that deal with same theme. If Valve would getting ideas from somewhere, it would be from the books, not from some crappy game called Ãîðüêèé 17. I remember so much hype for this game in Russia, too bad game didn’t lived up to it.

For those of us who are over 18, there are certain....legal constraints...that keep us from truly appreciating "everything 17"

hasn't half life 2 been in production for 5 years? I'm sure they had the story and location made before they began work on the game.. maybe not, but i doubt valve stole the idea

A dilapidated European city hasn't been an original concept for years.
 
Pretty much everything has been done before. The question is who can do it the best.

Umm I don't think that there is a relation because of the number 17 and if there is then many people have stolen the idea to use the number 17.

the number 17 is just cool...here's why.

1. it's odd. even numbers are just not cool (exceptions: 6, 8)

2. its prime. super cool.

3. it has a "v" it in. so does "evil" and "vicious", as well as "sever". for this reason, 7 and 11 are also cool. but 7 is too cliche and 11 is a palindrome. lame.

4. its in the upper teens. high enough for us to wonder where city 1-16 are, but not so high we think the number has some other meaning.

5. in l337-speak, 17 is "IT".

6. remember how in #1 i said 6 and 8 are the cool even numbers!? take another look at 17. 1+7=8, and 7-1 = 6. Coincidence? I think not. note that this point #6. oooh.

7. 17 is probably the average age of the HL2 fanboy. they're just trying to relate to their audience.

8. on related note, to americans at least, 17 the final age of minorhood. You can drive but you can't vote. You don't have all the legal rights. So 17 signifies a turning point...

9. 17 upside down is IL. like "ILL". 'nuff said.

10. finally, 17 is the age my dog lived to before he died. golden retreiver, named zak. thank you, valve.

Excellent link, Mullinator.

It's a well known historical Cold-War fact regarding the existence of these cities. For Valve to base Half-Life 2 around a European city named 'City 17' was brilliant. Without knowing the story arc yet, we can assume that this city has been settled and named as such for a good reason, else it would have been named a more traditional European city name.

Can't wait to discover why as I play!

well it is called a diff name. i mean this is CITY 17. so they r allowed to do this.

ALSO ALSO ALSO u have to remember...........Half life 2 has been in 4years and a HALF of development!!!!!

so that mean they prob didn't copy it

LOL....BS.
Statiatory rape has nothing to do with consent. Anyone can report it and It cant really be disputed. You will go to jail unless the charges are dropped.

There was a guy in my high school (18 and in high school with the girl mind you) who went to jail for having sex with a 17 year old girl...and it wasnt even her or her parents that had him put away, it was a jealous neighbor.

Also...there is nowhere in the United States where the age of consent is 13. Especially Texas, that is the most conservative state in the country, what makes you think for a moment they have lax sex laws?


Oh yeah and BTW...good link Mullinator...I wonder is HL2 will play a bit into our own history?
