:upstare: please, that's such a generalization ...there are many valid reasons to dislike the US of late ...the war in iraq just happened to intensify those feelings for people who already had grievances againt the US

All i'm saying, is the 'hatred' many people have is misplaced, and lots of people, especially young ones, don't really have their own basis for hating the states... they just get it from their parents and friends.

YEs, there are genuine reasons to hate the united states... such as the war, etc, but many people dont even have those reasons!

Well, whatever it is... they should be directing it at the government, not the citizens! I can't tell you how many times i've heard the phrase, "stupid american" When they don't even know me or the person they're talking to.

I think its all about the double standards. At least China doesnt go around to world leaders tell them to buck up their human rights.

While Bush will tell leaders about human rights and the next day their barring the UN from investigating tourture allegations. That is what pisses people off. To have the nerve to preach when your own house aint even in order!

Sure the US cares, but they have it completely backwards when it conscerns human rights. One minute their preaching equality, the other they're yelling about how gays are rampant heretics and don't deserve equal marriage rights.

It's like a kid trying to impress his friends so much he looks like a total show-off and hurts himself in the process.

I don't know what you are trying to prove here. I'm from Canada and that is a huge stereotype. It's posts like these that strain the relationship between the US and Canada. Not a wise post at all. Last time I checked, I think Canada needs to get the US on it's good side again, and posting this is anything but helping.

As far as I'm concerned about the whole popularity thing, the US did something that most of the world did not agree with so that's why China (being a communist Country..surpisingly) is more popular than the US..but will that change anything..I doubt it.
