Chinese Symbol Tattoo

Yeah I pretty much agree. I'm trying to learn Chinese so I can listen in on conversations pretending to be a foolish 洋鬼子 (foreign devil).
Harder than learning any other language I studied before...

Hehe! That's damn cool.
The same friend who told me about the tatoos also got me a jumper from Hong Kong with some Chinese characters on them, but she doesn't know what they mean. I hope they say something abiout SARS.
Actually I've also got a Mao t-shirt that says something about the people's fist or something... Meh. It's just all SO Oriental.

Cool hehe, they do have a lot of SARS t-shirts around, with biohazard signs and stuff.
The best merchandise is the communist art... looking a bit like this http://debrisson.free.fr/images/chine/fresque.jpg

"Why do women get tattoo's on the small of their back?"

"So you've got something to look at while you're 'talking' to em."

lol. I know, I know. taken and distorted from family guy. :burp:

I don't know if it's been posted before but this site is useful for chinese writing, I used it to make my desktop wallpaper a while ago.

Hey all,
Im really considering getting a tattoo soon but its not goin to be something crap or means very little...

Basically what Im looking for is a chinese symbol for "honor" or "trust"/"trustworthy" but sites that I have seen have maybe three symbols there./ I want it to look good and not have a trail of symbols...Have ye seen any sites that you could direct me to.

Also - whats a good font to have it translated underneath - gone through all my MS Word and the best i have is "EngrvrsOldEng BT".

Any suggestions much appreciated. I picked those words because they are things that I deeply value - was gonna use honesty but im not even honest with myself half the time and I conceal whats goin on with me so its not a perfect one to choose.

I wouldn't get a Hanzi/Kanji tattoo unless you really do your research into what you want. There are so many tattoos that end up saying something completely different. Not to mention, that if the tattoo artist doesn't know how to write Chinese properly, he could easily get it wrong. If you haven't written Chinese before it's very easy to miss something out, because you don't know what lines are important or not. When writting Hanzi/Kanji you have to pay special attention to the order you write the strokes, because otherwise it could be unreadable.

Also, a lot of the Tattoo parlours have incorrect characters on their wall, so don't trust the tattoo artist.

A good site to read to see some badly written tattoos is Hanzi Smatter, even if the webmaster is a bit vitriolic about it.

Geez. I dont know how somebody could ever learn to write or read japanese/chinese language etc.

I mean damn, the whole meaning can change with the slightly off line that doesnt curve half a milimeter to the right or left? Thats crazy. Not in, an insane way, but hard to comprehend way. In English, something like that is just called sloppy writing. lol. I could write some horribly disfigured letter, and still have people know it means what I want it to mean most of the time.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Dude, that guy is awesome! I hope that isn't a fake.

Seriously, why the hell do people want Japanese or Chinese written on them when they don't know what it means? My ex got a tatoo of this indian symbol, but she always knew what it meant and had a ring of it and everything for years. But I don't understand why people want to write "Strength" or "Big Penis" across their chests when they aren't even sure if it means that. And why don't people make their own designs?

Tattoos are friggin' awesome, but only if they are done right and not excessively. On girls it can be so damn good-looking... haha. At least, thats my opinion.

Tattoos just above the ass are rubbish, its usually just a crappy squiggle or something like the tattoo guy was on the phone and started doodling.

but having symbols from some asian country you know nothing about carved into you makes you cool, dont you know.

I love hip / lower back tatoos on chicks, that getes my engine rev'd :naughty:

But it's so common and unoriginal. Each to their own I guess, but soon lower-back tattoos will be as normal as earings. Don't seem special or unique to me any more.

Tats are ugly on anyone. Females especially. They're so trendy right now.

Here's a thought. You want to be unique huh? DON'T GET A TATTOO!! Otherwise, you end up being like everyone else. People are amazed when they find out that I have no piercings or tattoos. Why? Because almost everyone has one now.

Tattoos indicate low self esteem. Not in all cases but some.

Well, tattoos sometimes can be nice, I think. Not for myself, since I dont think i'll ever get one.

But funny thing is, something that may leave a greater impression on me is a simple wrist bracelet on a woman. I don't know why, but I find the wristlet, even if its just a freaking rubber band, to be attractive, since its sort of a contrast. Same reason I think a watch looks good on myself.

Weird, eh?

Tattoo?
AHH!
/me jumps off cliff without dieing
Why??

i dont find tattoos or piercings attractive or cool...

:p

translation of these will likely result in decapitaition of me

People are amazed? Wow, I know loads of people who don't have a piercing or a tattoo. I'll let you meet some of them; call the local news "Hey guys! Now there's more than one of us non-tattoed freaks!".

But seriosuly, you shouldn't just say something as arrogant as "Tats are ugly on anyone". Just because you don't like them, doesn't make them ugly.

ok - after reading many rants, good points and arguments erupting, a chinese symbol for the sake of it is overdone...SO...Last night i had the thought of a triangular symbol and at the three points written "Trust" "Strength" "Honor"...

Cheers for suggestions!

(Now all i need is a decent triangle rather than a dull ol' one)

EDIT: What do we think - http://www.so-to-speak-if-you-will.com/bathroom/symbol.jpg

If i can add a fourth value

Can you explain it again?
I forgot.

The central part has the Pi, Mu and Rho symbols. The symbols around the outside are the greek equivalents of P, G, N and I

Did you once say that Pi Mu Rho is your brothers name in greek?

Yes. Well, his initials anyway.

For guys small shoulder tatoos are nice. When it comes to larger tatoos I think the only kind I consider good looking are the large ones on the upper back.

That symbol you came up with Sabre would look good on either shoulder.

i was thinkin of adding 4 values at the points for chest area but not sure...Dont want to f- it up if i actually want it for life, i know it isnt a short-term thing...Maybe henna would be the way to go first.

ok this is what ive come up with - excuse the underneath text but "autotext" can only do so much - for some reason it fades to the distance instead of arching...but you get the idea.

So many girls have that, I find it more attractive when they and unusual when they have no tatoos.

Theres a girl at college with Kim tatooed on her lower back, but because of the style of the writing it looks like it says...bum :| No really.

That must be a very odd style of writing anyway!

I saw this stand-up comedian talking about those. It was slightly visual so you'll have to use your - shock horror! - imagination...

Do you get those 'cause your men are just really, really lazy and bored in bed?
<Does doggy-style sex mime. Starts to look around absent-mindedly. Stops thrusting. Looks down at where the tatoo would be>
Oooh look at that!
<Resumes thrustage>

It was funnier in real life. <Sighs>

I'd never get one. Dont care either way whether or not people have them.

I'm not a fan of chinese/japanese/whatever tattoos.. never really seen the point. Most of the tattoos I've seen have been awesome. But I'm seeing people at school with crappy little flash ones.. I hate that. Not sure if i'd ever get a tattoo myself

ive changed it from the chinese symbolism - will anyone comment on the pic :(

Hopefully its good - im pushing towards that at the moment but i think ill do henna first, see how that is and then go for it.

Personally I don't like it. But I don't like tattoos either, so I'm not much help. But honestly, who cares what anybody else thinks. It's your body and you're gonna be the one who has to look at it the rest of your life, so as long as you like it then that's all that really matters.

But if you get a giant penis tattooed on your forehead; a bunch of weird people will follow you around. I should know.

I am observant.
