So... I'm going to see a Chiropractic doctor this morning. I was convinced by my dad and his new wife to go and at least get the free x-ray and consultation they offer Even though I am not convinced of their capacity to accurately read an X-Ray and provide medical recommendations, I am going to do it anyway. I was explicit in saying that I would refuse any 'tweaks' or manipulation to any part of my body. Subluxation be damned!
I've had the stance for many, many years, going on probably since I was 16-17 or so that chiropractic care is complete quackery. That it does not have a scientific basis and from almost everything I read had confirmed this, even though there is a lot of information and lobbyists out there that try to fight against it.
Got into an argument with my brother this morning, when I told him I wasn't going to get any manipulation. He asked why, and I shared my opinions and that I wasn't going to let somebody manipulate my spine and ESPECIALLY not my neck because of the dangers inherent as well as the lack of solid un-conflicted evidence in the medical community about the efficacy of it.
It seems I am the only one in my family who understands and appreciates the scientific method(which chiropractors reject) and science in the way that makes something scientific and gives it a good basis. The rest of my family(unfortunately my brother too, since I thought he at least had some stance on my side of the issue) think science is ridiculous and that something being scientific is without real serious claim. That it's somehow inherently 'biased' and with 'ego'. Complete ridiculousness when it comes to international scientific peer review.
<sigh> I really wish they weren't this way. Antiscience personalities depress me.
Anyway... how do you guys feel about Chiropractic? I am almost positive we will get some people here who will rave about it.
So here I am off to go get this x-ray... get it read by a chiropractor and I guarantee you he'll say I have vertebral subluxation! Vertebral subluxation of course being total bullshit! I feel terrible for all those people who I've read about who suffered vertebral artery dissection and stroke as a result from their chiropractic visits.
