This really really ****ing sucks!

Don't know what the hell happened to drive Chris to kill his wife, son then himself....:(

He was a great wrestler and this is an utter-tragedy

WWE is pretty stupid when it comes to faking deaths as a means of boosting viewers though, the question had to be asked.

Sucks the whole family died though.

Unlike the tributes to Eddie Guerroro and other wrestlers who were active at the time, the show for Benoit had no crowd and in interviews only his career was mentioned.

Nobody really said 'Chris was the best person ever, never going to hurt a fly' etc.

So wasn't the normal

'cos it was a tribute to a great wrestler! He deserves that.

His actions are unforgivable and so a tribute to Benoit the person would be wrong.
 
come on he's no star athelete ..he's showman at best ..why doesnt OJ Simpson continue to get tributes for his outstanding career in football? ..celebrities should get no special privledge ..in any other segment of life a person who kills his family gets nothing but disdain ..their other acts are completely eclipsed by his final actions ..it should be NO different for a celebrity ..in fact it should be worse because he's in the public eye
 
But that's how it's always gonna be stern, famous people get the easy route with certain things, why you think Paris is out of jail?

Also he's dead, **** it. Can't say they are treating him too well when he's 6 feet under.

The tribute was aired hours after his death was known to the public. They had no idea what happened.
 
he's found dead with his family ..it doesnt take too much to piece together what happened even before the police report was made public ..they should have waited till details were known

It's funny how the first thing I thought of when I read about this incident was "well, if it was murder, at least they can't blame the steroids"

But now it turns out to be a murder-suicide, and they found steroids at his house lol
 
**** Chris benoit ..this thread should be re-titled "Nancy Daus and Daniel Benoit found dead, man responsible also dead but who cares" Chris should be wiped from everyones collective memories

Stern - this was a live broadcast. They had to do something. The WWE couldn't just ignore the death of one of their biggest stars, so they emptied the arena, McMahon came out *in contradiction to the dead McMahon angle* and played interviews with friends and past matches.

Now most references to Benoit on the site have been removed apart from a memorial image.

Seems they are already downplaying it condisdering what they know now. Tonights Smackdown/ECW tapings are going ahead without any further tributes afaik
 
why not? the tv show Friends ignored 9/11 despite being set near ground zero ..they couldnt have made a brief statement that he was found dead and left it at that? any way you slice it, it's in poor taste ..especially considering the circumstances
 
The irony that the WWE faked the death of its owner and then had to acknowledge and pay respect to an actual death of one of it's own wrestlers is just priceless. McMahon must've felt like such a dick walking out there to address the audience.

Have Benoit's family commented on anything yet?

If Raw was on today when everyone knows everything that has happened i'm sure it would be different.

With the short time they had without knowing all the details of course they would do a tribute show.

But as i have said before this wasn't like other tribute shows (a la Eddie Guererro) as it had an empty arena and focused purely on Benoit as a wrestler, not about other aspects of him and his life
 
Stern, I think you have to be a bit more sympathetic to their situation. At the time of the tribute, there was no suspicion of homicide fouling up the air. You can't blame them.

Any way, another dead beefcake.

I disagree about the suicide thing. Many feel they have no other choice. It's not that they want to die, they just want the pain to stop. I agree with the rest of your post.
