Christian gaming comes to consoles?

anyway, Computer Gaming is an Art, and it stands indipendent of judgment, if people start saying "this is wrong" and try to change gaming spirit, then the games will suck

it's like saying that a good novel that has violence in it, shouldn't be, not that what makes it a good book, a little spice, little sugar and some baking soda

Not necessarily. If this team intends to put up a product to rival the usual and it has whatever political or religious affiliations they deem appropriate for their specific work, then that's fine.
A religious painting needn't be a bad painting, just as a religious game needn't be a bad game (although I can see it as being more difficult). This approach of creating a rival rather than an attempt to simply do away with it all is a positive and comendable attitude to take.

huh? why would I be opposed to it? If I wouldnt buy it why would I stop someone else from buying it?

I know you Stern, you hate christians, and everyone else for that matter :frown:

:E :rolling:

The game won't be bought by the masses but a small group of people that are interested in that thought of thing or by mothers looking for a fun game that they can be positive will be safe and education for their young children...

anyone disagreeing with that either doesn't like freedom of choice or dislikes religous games

Poor bastards who ever end up playing this shit. I tell ya, this kinda flower power stuff would turn a man gay! hahahahaha

Meh, I couldn't say it was as bad as the poor bastards who got the Sims.

Alot of the guys on these forums are gay. Or at least have very homophobic tendencies.

Funny, how everywhere I turn, there are gaymers.

I never understood why some Christians would pick on the 'DOOM' series. I mean, what could possibly be more Christian than kicking the devil's ass?

Loving the devils ass, in a non-gay way.

Gay Homophobes?

Oxymoron?

Whoa. I wrote homophobic? I don't remember writing that. I could have sworn I wrote something entirely different.
Hrm.

I could have freaking swore I wrote homosexual tendencies. Not homophobic. Damn you moderators!

Inasmuch as it's a step in the right direction - I agree with Stern. Rather than focusing on the negative aspects of other games and trying to influence what the rest of us can play, they are just creating alternatives for themselves.

Although I can't help thinking that a Christian game will end up reflecting the type of family in this story: Acts of Gord Chronicles

The way I feel - if they focus on making a good game first and foremost then the more power to them. If they create a game that is simply window dressing for their ideology then it probably won't be a success.

Siege of the Philistines, godly sanctioned genocide - hrmmm has potential.

The crusades, killing Muslims in the holyland, w00t!

Feeding people to lions, yay!

Persecuting Jews, now you to0 can feel like Hitler!!!

Anyway, for the younger fellows.. a shephard tending a flock of sheep ... that could be fun...

Why not just slightly tweak Pikmin with a slight graphical change?

I could maybe see it working - herding the sheep around, playing the pan pipes, flinging rocks at recalcitrant lions.

Haha. Don't forget stopping the powers of Hell in Doom.

The intentions and the overall idea of presenting christian alternatives is definitely a step in the right direction.

The problem with this is that, as far as I have seen, there has not yet been a good or even an adequate christian game. And I honestly don't expect these ones to be any different.

The simple reason is that christian games are identical to non-christian games in every way, except with crosses and bible quotes mixed in there.
Just listen to the guy quoted in the first post.
First Person Christian Shooter.
It's exactly the same as any other FPS, except without blood.
Bible Trivia too, is exactly the same as regular trivia, except without a range of topics.
In every case, christian games are just regular games with their lack of features held to the forefront.
It's just like that fun game, except without the option of violence. It's just like that fun game, but with less material.
"kids love shooting, right? Well let's let them shoot, only with no consequences and with bibles."

The games are all idealistic to the point of being awful.
In real life, christians fight in wars. Christian police officers fight crime. People go through all manner of dilemas that could either make a good game, or be fictionalized through various devices into being a good game.

It's telling that the closest thing to a christian game that doesn't blow is Deus Ex 1.
In that game, you're presented with problems that aren't sanitized or stupid. Terrorists are trying to kill stuff, and you're a cop out to stop them.
You're rewarded for using stealth, diplomacy and non-lethal attacks, but the game isn't going to stop you from shooting or make the bullets out of flowers or some such shit.
Also, the focus of the game isn't constant adherence to scripture, let alone specific quotations of the bible. Yet you're presented with a variety of moral situations, and it's implied that you do the right thing, even if other amoral characters won't respect you.

Compare that to any christian game you can think of. You're probably an angel or extremely devout christian. (Or soon will be either.) And then you solve 'real world' situations so retarded that they were probably rejected from 7th Heaven.

You are approached by a DRUG DEALER.
1-Say no to drugs?
2-Quote cornelius 18:34 "the path to the lord is met through virtuousness"?
You selected "2".
Drug dealer: Why golly, I am inspired by your words and will attend youth choir daily. Thank you sir, and God be praised!
GAME OVER

I'm not christian, or any religion as many of you already know. But that doesn't mean that the bible, as a collection of fables, can't make for interesting and actual fun games. Just leave out all the hackneyed bullshit about god punching the devil and vice-versa, or some sort of adventure alongside carebears in candyland, and actually present a real world that is violent and is bloody, but where doing the right thing is what works best.

Deus Ex shows that a game based on morality needn't be pussified into oblivion or set in Mr. Roger's Neighbourhood to promote goodness.

But presenting 'worlds' where Christianity is the only option and violence is neither a threat or a possibility just insults people's intelligence and reminds them of what they're missing from real, thought-out games.

Please do not insult what little intelligence we have.

We know Christian games would suck. End of story.

If Christianity was fun they wouldn't have to keep reminding us that, without it we are destined to an eternity burning in hell.

On a serious note. Its not necessarily that fact that biblical history or Christianity is boring, its not. Its more the fact that somebody who cant enjoy a non-Christian game, is probably the kind of person who doesn't have a clue what fun is.

He will just preach some bullshit gospel and get all the Christian mummies and daddies with no sense of fun or reality to buy this cloned bullshit with a biblical twist, for their poor witless children.

Its just capitalism people.

Were you referring to Mechagodzilla?

If so I'm left at a loss as to why you said so. I found Mechagodzilla's post to be well thought out and considered. He was referring to perhaps a different (and more hopeful) definition of 'Christian games'; a definition that encompasses games that can show you the meaning of morality without stinting on the detail.

I think you may still be thinking of the definition that falls just short of propaganda, i.e. the example Mecha uses concerning the drug dealer.

Or maybe I just didn't catch the sarcasm.

The point is not people finding non-Christian games boring. It is them deeming non-Christian games inappropriate. Then deciding they want alternatives.

All well and good - it is a huge improvement over them trying to legislate their morality onto me.
