Yep...christians. Not just normal paranoid parents. Christian parents.

I work at a local movie theater. I was running the projectors today and accidentally started the wrong movie. This particular case it was due to me being dyslexic and when I checked the schedule it got switched around in my brain. I threaded and started the wrong movie.

20 mins later I hear my manager telling me the wrong movie is playing. Sure enough it is. No biggie, I haven't screwed up in many months so ive been doing well. I stop the movie and 5 mins later the correct one is playing. I walk out of booth and my manager SCREAMS at me. Apparently the movie that was supposed to start is a movie called "Facing The Giants" which is a christian football movie. The movie I started was "The Departed" In the first few minutes apparently there is swearing and guns shooting.

The christian parents came out and yelled at my manager that their kids will be taumatized for life because of what they saw. In turn my manager yelled at me and this type of mistake is common, but starting a bad movie like this in place of a kids movie is grounds for termination, not just a write up. What happens? I get let off the hook due to my management being fire happy. They have fired too many other people to the point there is NO ONE in the whole theater to replace the times and positions I can work. Therefor they cannot operate without me. I am saved.

My question to those christian parents is...do they have cable? Also do they let their children watch it? If so I am going to report them. They are sick sick people. In the movie I showed there was only minor cursing and a gun. On cable there is sex, swearing, violence, drugs and everything bad you can possibly think of. So what makes it OK to be shown at home and not OK in a movie theater? Sounds like a double standard to me. Oh well, I am sure those kids are being traumatized a lot worse by blind, ignorant beliefs anyways.

This is America. Guns and swearing are deep within our culture. **** them.

**** THEM INDEED

I hate religion, ****ing people with their beliefs and GOD, lawl, WHAT A JOKE!

Actually in the first five minutes of The Departed, you see two girls get graphically shot in the head and you get to hear ol' Jackie-Boy say the dreaded N-word. And no, that shouldn't "emotionally scar" anyone, but I remember going to middle school heavily populated by conservative chrisians who wern't even allowed to watch PG or PG-13 movies, so yeah...

And now you are yelling at us.

Cool job btw

Still nothing wrose than what is on cable TV. Seems hippocritical to yell at me for showing that content then let their children watch worse content on TV.

It would have been better if you did it on purpose.

And actually... the departed is quite worse than most of cable tv. And most kids watch cartoons, not action television where most of that stuff is. So going there to watch a football movie which their parents brought them to see and seeing some people's heads get sploded while people swear could be quite an experience for the kids, for good or worse.

Oh well, at least is wasnt the boondock saints.

So you made a mistake, almost get fired for it, and it's someone else's problem?

Listen I can sympathize with your dyslexia and whatnot, but (having not seen The Departed myself, but just reading Slacker's description of the opening scenes) having that movie play instead of something else isn't just like, "Oh, well." Will the kids be traumatized for life? Pfft, hell no. But if their parents don't want them seeing something, well, those're their kids and they have a right to be angry with you.

This isn't a religious thing. They were going to watch a Christian movie, sure, but unless they were spouting that you were some godawful heathen and Jesus-a is gonna send you screaming into the fires of damnation for all eternity, the fact that they're religious has no bearing on this situation and you're just poking at them for it. The point is, their children heard someone called the n-word and saw two girls shot in the head. Believe it or not, you can watch cable TV without ever seeing that, so that's also an invalid point you're trying to make.

You made a mistake dude. Don't try to blame it on religion or parents because YOU made a mistake and then try to get our support. Be lucky you didn't get fired.

Wow, that "Facing the Giants" movie looks like a real tub of shit, unless Jesus comes in at the end as 2nd string QB, then it owns

The kids wouldn't make a big deal about it if the parents didn't. And why would they sit there for 20 minutes listening to some guy say the "n" word and shoot people?

Kids, especially younger ones, look to their parents to understand a situation. Social referencing or something...I've worked with 5yr olds for the past 4 years and i've heard them say some pretty unbelievable things. So I have a feeling when your 8-10yr old sees somebody get shot, that's not going to traumatize them for life.

I wouldn't mind christians, if it wasn't for the fact that they try to spread their religion into every aspect of american culture. I don't want to be christian, and I don't want to be subjected to christian rules. Why can't they respect that?

I should start trying to teach you all about jesus and convert you to my religion... cause that's what christians do after all.

Come now, gather round everybody and let me... okay now that I got you here, get the **** out with your stereotyping.

I think my black friend said it best, "The word n**ger only insults the people to whom it pertains." Kinda works the same way with the term "white trash" I suppose.

It's not a stereotype. You're just a shitty Christian.

This is about three posts away from dissolving into an all-out religious discussion, so let me just once again point out that this situation really has nothing to do with religion and it's just Glirk trying to make it seem like it does.

Boiled down:
1. He showed the wrong movie
2. Parents didn't like the movie shown to their kids
3. He blames them for almost getting him fired

No religion involved.

Confusing a Scorsese movie with a family film is a pretty massive mistake and the parents had every right to complain. You should show some humility. Were I managing a theatre and that occured I'de probably consider firing the person even if nobody complained.

Additionally, making this thread deliberately antagonizing toward Christians wasn't necessary. The values that can come of Christianity are as varied as there are individual Christians.

N-gger only offends ignorant people.

:\

I agree with everyone.

Or, to be more specific, I agree with the thread starter - although if you're going to 'accidentally' play the wrong movie, you could at least 'accidentally' put some german hardcore pron on.

lol. And you're in what position to make me care what you say?

I also think other christians are full of shit when they try to claim that others are not christians... just because they do things like occasionally swear, and play violent video games.

jeez some of you are making waaaaaay too much out of this ..Glirk made a mistake over zealous parents had an overreaction of biblical proportions. Solution = give me 10 hail marys 14 our fathers and 20 pushups and we'll call it even, praise the lord /me does sign of cross

The best part is that Martin Scorsese is a prominent catholic in hollywood, and the departed is has quite a lot of religious thematics.

But, first off, you totally deserve to be fired for sucking at your job.

That being said, the bible contains hilarious amounts more violence.
Plastic copies of Noah's Ark are extremely popular christian toys. "Baby's First Apocalyptic Genocide"?

esse scheisee :p

The whole incident the starter of the thread faced is nothing Christian. That is the parents' problem. As Darkside said, no religion is involved. Why people have to put question religious? Not just Christian parents do that but every (bad) parent does that. What's the point of this thread? Blindly criticize Christians? I sincerely doubt the purpose of this thread. It is suely not for venting any anger, but it is for missionary work of antitheism.

I think the story is hilarious, it's almost like a comedy sketch to do something THAT wrong with such huge consequences. You probably do deserve the sack for that, and your point about cable being worse. I'm sure most people are aware and they don't let their children watch it, in fact many households don't even have a television. It's just a different way of life. Lets not make this a religious slang-match, despite how much I find Christianity ludicrous you've gotta respect a parents decision for their child, they are shaping their child's life as they see fit.

(Oh and stop the N word evasion tactics, N word will do or take the *****'s you tarts! Ignorant or not, thems the rules here.)

**** you, you **** ******* ************** :p

Anyway, that sucks, but you did screw up.

it's your fault you switched the schedule. True, they should have been more polite, but you deserve the blame for switching the movie. They paid to watch one movie, and you gave them something else. It's an honest mistake for sure, but its not their fault.

Note that that was not the first time he played a wrong movie. He said that he did that several times before, he deserves gettin' fired.

And don't think people will support you if you state that the parents are Christians. :p

Stereotyping is gay, is gay is gay.
I am Christian, and I watch all kinds of sihts. I even know what channel is PBTV. Don't get many chances to watch it though. My grandma and mom dont really care what I watch, as long as I dont start doing rituals and chanting 'MAGIC MISSLEZ!!!'.. yay for DND!
Oh, and football+Christianity? DID JESUS MAKE A TOUCHDOWN?
See, I can make jokes too, Christian jokes don't really offend me unless they are stupid, or just like ALL CHRISTIANS ARE GAY (1/6000000 christians are gay.)

Can I point out that Glirk is DYSLEXIC?

At the risk of getting minus sympathy points, shouldn't he be doing something that has less dire consequences when misreads occur?

in all fairness it was not minor cursing and a gun, that film is EXTREMELY violent. people getting their heads smashed in, shot in the face, there's a bit where this old guy throws coke on a bed, tells this girl to bend over and not stop snorting till she's numb and then he gets ready to screw her. i mean, i'm 19 so it's fine, but if you took your kids to see a football film and then they got shown people being killed in very very graphic ways, you'd pe annoyed too.

i really can't see how your trying to justify this, they had every right to be angry and you know it. and i'm sure they don't let them watch those cable channels.

oh and for the record, you say it's common but i've never ever been shown the wrong film in a cinema.
