From what little I read of that article, I get the impression that he was a professional troll.

Awww man. I would have liked to talk to him some time. I missed my chances!

Shame there's no afterlife - he could be entertainingly pissing off everyone in it for all eternity. RIP.

i'll keep his family in my prayers

One of the best.

Haven't gotten around to reading any of his stuff, didn't keep up on many of his articles, but his debate style was second to none as far as I'm concerned. Just an eminently charismatic, articulate and vicious presence on the stage, always enjoyable to listen to regardless of whether I agreed with all of his points. He'll be missed.

I hope he likes un-baptised babies.

been crying for the last 10 minutes....will have a bottle of black label later tonight to honor his Memory.

RIP.

Agreed.

I've seen quite a few videos of his debates.

RIP.

A bizarre born-again neo-con who hopped aboard Dawkins' bandwagon of strident atheism and rode it to moneybagsville. Not going to pretend I'm sad. A passionate debater, sure, but if he had charisma it was lost on me. If I respected anything about him it was the fact he was pissed drunk in practically every public appearance he made.

I'm a Christian so I don't really like the mans works. But I have nothing against him as a human being. Sorry to the family and all the people who care about him. Anytime someone dies it's a sad time. :( I think I could of respected the man more though if he was more.. respectful about other peoples opinions and views like mine instead of being so sacrilegious. I debate and listen to respectful atheist all the time, I think that's the only way to approach that kind of debate because it's very much like politics, no matter how stupid or dumb you think the other side is for not believing what you believe, they have their reasons. And arguing or making fun of another view doesn't convince anyone.

God damn. RIP Hitchens, you viscous son of a bitch

Yeah, he was known to gradually slide down mountain-sides after he'd had a few molt whiskeys (see what I did).

Hitchens wouldn't agree with you there, I'm afraid. :p

"If you gave him an enema he could be buried in a matchbox." Amazing.

Sure it does. The thing is, strident atheists like Hitchens and Harris and whoever aren't really after hard converts, they're after those of us who are still sitting on the fence. That accounts for more people than you might think.
