Chronicles of Riddick EFBB PC Gamespot review

 This game is freaking tight! I love it, I think it's overall better than Doom III, what engine did they use for this game? But Doom III engine probably do better. I think it's almost up there with Half Life 2 in immersiveness.

They created their own engine for this. How doees the game run? what are your specs?

Or take WoW looks absolutly beautifull while the hardware requirments are pretty low and GW to.

You actually thing WOW looks good? WTF are you on? That game looks like a stain on a matress compaired to other MMO's Oh and give me a real reason that its good that no other mmo has other than the same old "its warcraft" bullsht I always hear from silly fanboys.

On topic now: It looks neat, looks alot like the D3 engine but not... For $30 I might check it out, didn't really like cronicles or riddick but I did enjoy Pitch Black. Movies... digital entertainment, seems to be going downhill the past few years, that is for the exception of HL2 :)

It runs well on my computer. I haven't seen any kind of slowdowns yet. Although I don't if it's some kind of bug or something but when I try to select "Shader Level 2.0++" the game runs very bad, like 5 fps constant.

My specs are:
Intel Pentium IV 3.4GHz
1024 MB DDR533
GeForce 6800 256MB PCI-Express

nice comp loke,similiar to mine
Intel Pentium IV 3.2GHz
1024 MB DDR2 533mhz
x800xt 256mb pci-express
hl-2 still runs like shit though

:| It runs well on my computer. This is one game where I don't have to worry about what setting I have to specifically set them to just to play fair, I set everything high as possible and I used the in-game menu for anistropy. I haven't tried anti-aliasing... there are some gruelsome uglyness of those jaggies though. I've crashed like twice, dunno what it could be, they also happened during checkpoint loads or quicksave loads and i've the latest Beta for ATi.

3.2C
1 Gig of PC-3200
x800 Pro

The game runs suprisingly well on my 9800 pro, except for the intense gunfights - where the FPS drops down to 25 at times.

The beginning is awsome, with the movie like intro. I felt more immersed in that beginning scene than in any other game I've ever played. That's not saying it is the best game ever, but it is up there with the best.

Well I finsihed the game - apparently it seems even shorter than the xbox one. I finished it within 7 hours...(and I was even playing it leisurly).

Just a few pointers for people, who haven't bought it yet:

The arsenal of weapons is even smaller than in HL2.

The game's story remains great - even after the release of MGS3s, etc. - at least for the FPS genre.

Vin should provide his voice in more games....

Too many F-bombs (just a precaution for underage). The game stays true to it's subject matter.

The shooting has less of "tactics" going on, and more of "run up to the enemey, and aim at his head at point blank range to kill". Like I said earlier, the A.I. over here is pretty much similar to that of HL2, at least in the normal difficulty.

The game's controls are perfectly tuned for the PC.

The stealth in first-person rocks!

How many difficulty settings does it have?

All i gotta say is WOOT for PCI-Express, too bad my PCI-E baby's at home right now....*sniffles*

There are 3 difficulty settings: Easy, normal, hard.

Easy - In every sense of the word! You can literally float through CHR in this setting within 5 hours of gameplay time.

Normal - Good difficulty level, here the riot guards are slightly harder to kill, so are other enemies. But if you run up close and aim at the head, you'll be able to kill them fast, and suprisingly lose less health.

Hard - now this is sort of challenging. No, the A.I. doesn't become overly smart, than before - but taking down enemies will take some more time. If you tactically approach the situation, you'll see them rolling around and performing cool tactics like Halo's A.I. - and they can also take more damage.

Overall, if you like immersive games, even if they are short, you'll like this better than any Doom 3, HL2, Far cry, etc. I personally liked it better than all of those games. :)

and how are the extras mission?

cuz I heard the PC version hav some extra content right?

Sounds good :)

I've only played a few hours on normal (XBox version)

Will pick this up soon :)

I'm having almost as much fun with this game as with HL2 ..I NEVER expected it to be this good..why no hype?

I thought games without hype were never really worth checking out

Graphic-wise, it's the best looking game I ever played.

I also like being in jail and other places with all these crooks to talk with :)

Really immersive, and VERY good game so far.. I think I'm at 1/2 of the game now.

Just picked this up yesterday myself and I'm pleasantly surprised. It is amazing to look at. Sure, you have that D3, plasticky sort of rendering but somehow it's not so bad. And the textures are phenomonal, especially on fabric. The gameplay is not nearly as good as HL2, but it is fun and like other people were saying the story is immersive. For $25-30 I highly recommend getting this one. It's like a nice dessert after the high-caloric meal of HL2.

IMO, the gameplay in HL2 was resembled a generic FPS, which is not bad, but not really great even.

Riddick has more original ideas (in terms of stealth and pacing) - and it's kinda fun collecting cigarette packets. :D

What really blows me away? The characters. They all look better than the Half Life characters. Here's the kicker. You never see the same face twice, unlike HL2 where you see the same generic black guys face dozens of times.

Thats token, hes cool.

And yea, I'm waiting for a demo.

every review i read doesn't really explain the games gameplay or why its so gr8,the new eurogamer review just bangs on about the story and diesel etc,is at typical fps with stealth and rpg elements or wat?also the environments look kinda boring, typical metal structures/Very doom like etc,ne1 post some screenies also IS IT OUT IN EUROPE?

In my opinion they look no where close to the HL2 characters. They look like they've been molded out of plastic, plus you can see white lines where their members fit together and what happend to their eyes? I will admit though the bump mapping on them is quite impressive.

Also, the self-shadowing system used on the models can look rather ugly and glitchy at times. It's noticeable around Vin's nose and the back of his neck in this shot... sometimes it's even worse.

Yeah, you can see that in the second screenshot I posted as well.

And what was so great about hl2? The physics? Valve didnt even create it themself, lots of other games use it. Although it was first with a gravgun id say stealth is a lot more innovative.

Not true, the Havok engine VALVe used was a pretty old and basic one, but they modified it a lot to meet their own needs and give Half-Life 2 excellent physics.

That's what he said ;)

(omg - I just agreed with mortiz /o\)

Gamespot are crap at reviewing games, they're a bunch of sellouts. I was thinking when I was reading it, this review sounds like it written by a 6 year old. The waddaya know I goto to check my email a few minutes later and I've got junk mail from gamespot telling me to buy riddick through their website.

Urgh, I'm sick of shit like that. BTW I've played through Riddick and HL2 and in Gamespots review, everything they seemed to praise in Riddick they criticised HL2 for. They're losing their credibility for reviewing games, they're so ****en up and down, it's either shit in their eyes of better than sex.

Is anyone having problems with setup?

I tried re-installing the game, to play it one more time - but the annoying "the game has crahsed" error comes. Anyone?

They just dont make games like they used to.
