Chrono cross

I NEED an RPG, and I'm interested in chrono cross for the PS1.

People were saying that the SNEs game- chrono trigger- was great. So i thought i'd give it a try and (upon checking ebay prices and realising it wasn't a good idea) downloaded an emulator of the game (it's perfectly legal as long as you only keep the ROMs for 24 hours... or so the readme says...).

I must say it's amazing! After comparing it to SOM (which is an excellent SNES RPG) i realised just how good chrono trigger was. I mean i didn't expect that SNES RPGs could get much better than SOM... oh, how wrong i was.

I mean, for starters- the game looks wonderful. The 2D world map looks pixel perfect- and ulike other world maps, it is full of life and texture. The battles are superb- for a turn based RPG you can't get a more fluid SNES game than chrono trigger.

So i like chrono trigger- and therefore i might buy chrono cross. Upon checking the reviews i was mightily suprised- IGn give Chrono cross 97%, gamespot give it 100%.

So does anyone know much about this game? I'm dying for info here! tommorrow i'll probally nip down to my local second-hand game store and see if they've got any for sale. I'm also interested in Vagrant story (notice a pattern emerging? Squaresoft pwn).

Just one more question...did final fantasy come before or after Chrono trigger? And also, is it true that final fantasy was names "final" because square were on the verge of bankrupcy and wanted to make one last game, but it was such a hit that it made them loads of cash? I can't remember if i read that ages ago, or whether i saw it in a dream. I see lots of things in my dreams. nice things...

Well, I haven't played CC myself, but I've only heard good things about it. Vagrant Story as well.

The original Final Fantasy came out on the NES, while Chrono Trigger was on the SNES. And yes, that's how Final Fantasy got its name.

I think Final Fantasy came out in 1987, and yes Square were apparently in slight financial trouble. But I don't think the word "Final" meant too much. FF1 was for the NES, and CTrigger was for the SNES so CT must have come much later, I think mid-90's somewhere.

Also I think guy that created Dragonball/Z also designed the CT characters.

Chrono Cross is pretty good - but not as excellent as Chrono Trigger.

Neither are a patch on SoM in 3 player

Have you tried FF6? Best of the series imo - and up there with CT and SoM.

CT = Favorite RPG of ALL-TIME
CC = Great RPG, but since CT was SNES, CT was better

CC has so many characters you can use, but eventually you narrow your party down to three guys. I had great fun while playing the game. Cool story and characters. If you want an RPG, get it.

You need to play that because of the music...the soundtrack is the best on the playstation (for any RPG) PERIOD! And it's a good game..the only game gamespot gave a 10!

Also, LOZ: OoT will be tthe best game of all time in the history of forever til the new Gamecube zelda game comes out... and the metal gear solid franchise won't be to far behind it

anyway, yes i've played FF6. I got to the last boss and for some reason stopped playing.. but i still have it, so i might train up (a lot) and try to take him on again (i always keep a save on the world map). I have it for the PS1, mainly as i wanted the FF10 demo

I'm almost definately gonna get chrono cross now. w00t. Now back to homework... *cries*
