I seriously don't get how this is an issue. Half the kids at my Catholic school aren't even Catholic and they read the Bible when (rarely) the school tels us to. It's not making them convert or anything, so who the hell cares? The only way you'd feel threatened by this is if you, like with the gay situation, were not secure in your religious beliefs.
Separation of Church and state? Government money isn't supposed to pay for religious education in any form or fashion. Besides why do you need the bible to learn how to fight back, why can't a teacher just reference real historical events were people stood up?
Moses and Saladin are not fiction. Sorry pal, alot of the historical figures in most religious books are real. Mohamed, also that dude I can't remember who was going to cut the kid in half to show who the real parent was, etc. I can't even think of anyone from the quran or Bible who are fictional. Maybe their stories are a tad fairytale from the test of time, but their characters were real.
[edit] Never mind, I skimmed your post but it turns out you came to the same conclusion that I did.And what's the difference? I'm talking about the major religious books. Moses and Saladin are very important historical figures. Both built/founded Empires that effect our world even today, eons after the Empire's death.
Also, I'm not talking about a complete coarse in Religious book studies. just the parts that have historic references. Which is essentially as it is now. I guess I'm arguing o keep it as is today.
Sleep time for me. I'll reply to anything in the morning.
There're no historical facts in the bible that can't be found in a better form in real history books. And what's the difference? I'm talking about the major religious books. Moses and Saladin are very important historical figures. Both built/founded Empires that effect our world even today, eons after the Empire's death.

Alleged Chuck Norris Fact: "Chuck Norris' tears can cure cancer. Too bad he never cries. Ever."
Chuck Norris: There was a man whose tears could cure cancer or any other disease, including the real cause of all diseases ? sin. His blood did. His name was Jesus, not Chuck Norris.
If your soul needs healing, the prescription you need is not Chuck Norris' tears, it's Jesus' blood
Being more a student of the Wild West than the wild world of the Internet, I'm not quite sure what to make of the craze of "Chuck Norris Facts." It's quite surprising. I do know that boys will be boys, and I neither take offense nor take these things too seriously. I'm so grateful for my fans. Who knows, maybe these one liners will prompt some one to seek out the real facts about me and the beliefs that have shaped my life and my career.
While I have as much fun as anyone else reading and quoting them, let's face it, most "Chuck Norris Facts" describe someone with supernatural, superhuman powers. They're describing a superman character. And in the history of this planet, there has only been one real Superman. It's not me
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.
It's not surprising... Chuck Norris is ultra conservative.
Heh. I heard that he once co-hosted Hannity and Colmes, filling in for Hannity on Fox News once.
Chuck Norris has never co-hosted anything, rather he allows other people to talk
Bible in public schools? meh, who cares. Catholic schools don't even teach the Bible. It's good and all because it will give you a strong sense of fighting back. I know many will say it somehow will make you a Religious fanatic, but I can't see how.
As far as I care, they could teach the quaran in public schools. If I learn something from it, then good.
steven segal??? ..actually he means Jesus, Jesus could drop kick Segal if he wanted to
Because it is the job of schools to teach students facts, not nonsensical garbage.
How can they all be facts.I think they should be taught the historical backgrounds of all religious books. The quran, that book the Buddhists follow. It will aid them in figuring out were all the problems come from, thus allowing them to make rational decisions.
I don't consider any part of any holy book fictional garbage, just facts told from their respected viewpoints.
When the jews build that time machine they've been working on, then we shall know the truth.
Chuck Norris is a joke. And here I thought this would have at least 5 pages filled with Chuck Norris jokes. Ahh well.
Well, I guess the thread in general is a Chuck Norris joke. Nice..
