"Tough-guy actor and martial arts expert Chuck Norris sued publisher Penguin on Friday over a book he claims unfairly exploits his famous name, based on a satirical Internet list of "mythical facts" about him.

Penguin published "The Truth About Chuck Norris: 400 facts about the World's Greatest Human" in November. Author Ian Spector and two Web sites he runs to promote the book, including www.truthaboutchuck.com, are also named in the suit."

He's just upset that the chuck norris phase has passed. Trying to grab attention, and going the wrong way about it.
 
Why didn't he just roundhouse kick the publishers in the face?
 
He was OK with the facts before they were released in something commercial. He said before in a statement on his website that he had even laughed at them, and acknowledged it was all in good fun as "Boys will be boys."

This has nothing to do with the content of the facts, it's simply that he wants money. Part of me does agree though that if something uses your name, you should be entitled to some profit.

Yeah I agree too but Chuck Norris doesn't use money, he just takes whatever he needs. Oh shit I'm gonna get sued!
 
Basically they're using his name (image) to make money, which is where the copyright violation occurs. IF you work hard to make a name/image for yourself and someone starts making money off of your hard work, then you'd probably sue too.

He's not a douchebag, I'd sue anyone using my name/likeness/art/etc in a similar manner.

He just wants money. He's entitled to it, anyway. I would have done the same thing. It'll settle and he'll get some $$$ and so will the guy who came up with the Chuck Norris thing and they'll both be happy.

You know who I'm surprised hasn't sued for any jokes against him? Michael J. Fox. The internet loves joking about the guy, but he's never sued.

I suppose it's because every time he tries to dial a lawyer he ends up mashing the numbers.

He's entitled to monies because they're using his name / image to make money for themselves.

I doubt the guy is carrying out a personal action, more likely it is whichever Agency has him on it's books. He's effectively their product and it's their job to ensure his image rights are maintained. When there is no profit margin involved then unless it's defamatory no ones going to give a shit, but when someone if profiting off you somehow, then the agency has to take action, if you don't you've effectively given free reign to other people to do the same, because they can cite your earlier inaction as a sign of compliance.

Exactly. Norris isn't the one at fault here - the people seeking to make a profit from his good name, and not paying him any money for his hard work - they're the ones to blame.

Doesnt mean they dont have rights to their own name. He has every right to want to have a cut of the profit
 
Wow, first he claims his powers were given to him by God and now hes sueing someone for wanting to share his greatness.

I hate to say this, but I'm fast losing respect for the man.
