Essentially, the Church of England has taken offense to the game Resistance: Fall Of Man due to its implementation of the Manchester Cathedral as an area where the player battles enemies. The Church demands that Sony grants them a donation, as well as an immediate withdrawal of the game - only being re-issued once the controversial content has been removed or altered.

Your thoughts? The issue of copyright laws is something I can't comment on due to my ignorance on the subject, but as far as moral concerns go, I think this is a crock of shit.

So using guns defensively against a horde of ravage monsters inside a cathedral is the same as using guns as a way of life "inda hood"

You'd think the Church would be appreciative of efforts to cleans the cathedral of alien hordes, but I guess not...

Once again, the ingorance of people astounds me. They brought people onto CNN from Mothers Against Violence who talked about how children were re-enacting these games in the streets. Umm, no. I'm sorry, but whatever youth problems you're experiencing have little to do with video games, if at all.

Of course, they never brought on somebody to say "Guess what guys, this just might be bullshit". If the developers used a mosque instead, I guarantee we'd be seeing just a quarter of the outcry we have with the Church.

omg aliens desecrated a virtual sacrosanct place of woship?

god's going to smite their asses, pox, unsightly boils, raining locusts/frogs, deaths of first born

/me pulls up chair to watch the religious crazies ninja attack Insomniac

Yup, crock of shit.

Still, with all these lawsuit-happy bastards out there, it might not be a bad idea to dust off that law degree.

so the churches idea of reaching an agreement is extortion and a ridiculously sizable financial loss for Insomniac. Sounds fair.

I think this is an absolute mockery, a total crock of shit; further proof - if any was needed - that the Church resides in some backwards form of reality completely detached from mainstream society. Who on Earth could, or would attempt to cause a stir with something so trivial, so utterly inane? It's a game, a recreation of reality that neither 'pollutes' young church-goers minds or, as they seem to fear, provokes horrifying thoughts of aliens running amok in the building. Oh the morality.

I'm not one to know about the laws of copyrights and all that jazz, but it's so good to know Jesus found the time to copyright his buildings, should they ever in the future be loosely recreated for entertainment purposes. Oh the sacrilege. I'm sure when he descends from the cosmos he'll put this right, and banish those devil-possessed and no good game developers to hell.

This shit totally irritates me. Insomniac have my vote, and I'll happily rotten vegetables and egg Rt Rev Nigel McCulloch should I see him in the street.

*Cowers in the corner, taking to care to avoid Samon's wrath*

They're just pissed that it's on a PS2/3. If it were on a 360, they'd be overjoyed.

I think an Old Testament game on the 360 would be totally badass. Save your soul while raining down burning death and destruction on those who oppose you.

See? It would teach you Christian values while still managing to appeal to the typical male gaming demographic!

Maybe the children would be more level-headed individuals if their mothers were home actually parenting rather than doing bullshit interviews on CNN all the time...

The new PlayStation 3 game, which has sold more than one million copies, sees a virtual shoot-out between rival gunmen with hundreds killed during a battle inside the cathedral.

Ya thats definitely true...

The computer game shows scenes of bloody violence where players must shoot dead a host of enemies using weapons such as a Rossmore 236 close-quarter combat shotgun, the L23 fareye sniper rifle and an XR-005 Hailstorm chaingun.

1. not a computer game
2. i love how they go into unnecessary detail about the kinds of weapons
3. wtf is the XR-OO5 Hailstorm chaingun?!

Their name seems odd to me.

I mean, does any sensible, well-adjusted person like violence? In real life? It's not as if there are legitimate organizations out there whose mission statement is "FOCK YAH, LET'S GO KILL SOME PEEPS, YO".

I think you are forgetting the National Association for Killin Dem Bloodz and the American Crip Killin League

The church has some cheek asking for a donation and for them to withdraw the game.

Cram it up your arse church of England.

I cannot envision the church winning this court case in any way whatsoever.

if they put so much emphasis on the guns, why they dont mentioned the aliens?

cuz the aliens are the big facotr of the game

but no posting people killing people sell more newspapers

So, when Manchester kids start going on murderous rampages with chainguns yelling "DIE ALIENS!", then we start worrying?

I'm guessing the next thing we'll start seeing is people in various European villages saying "Hey guys, I was playing your game Call of Duty and I noticed that this battle took place in the village that I live in and there's house in the game that looks like mine. I SUGGEST YOU PULL THE GAME BEFORE IT CAUSES NAZIS TO START KILLING MY FAMILY OR I WILL SEE YOU IN COURT, BABY EATERS!"

Someone told me Manchester Church isn't even Church property.

In any case, this is retarded.

Has anybody seen my chaingun??? I've just seen some weird looking bloke outside my house looking all suspicious and alien-like.....

I've never seen any kids re-enacting video games on the streets.

If I did, I would inform HalfLife2.net on how retarded this children were and how they are a plague upon society and then people would reply with some pedophile remarks just for good measure.

This is complete bullshit. The Manchester Cathedral is not a private estate, it's a public place and as such cannot be copyrighted. Otherwise, we'd be seeing NY suing Rockstar Games for GTA, GTA 3 and GTA IV.

There is no "copyright" here, so their case is a serious (mental) case.

Lol The church of England - its more popular in America. Get the **** out of our country.
