Great way to bring in the new year, with a new version of Cinematic MOD.

FAKEFACTORY CINEMATIC MOD V9.5
Update Build 9.5 Snapshot-Release

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PERFORMANCE-WARNING:

The Orangebox/Source Engine is getting outdated and performs poor compared to newer engines like the Cry-Engine or the Unreal-Engine.
It's almost impossible to get good framerates with enhanced viewrange, hires-textures and high polycount.
Therefore prepare yourself for fps below 40 in some open areas, unless you're using the latest NASA supercomputer.

SNAPSHOT-RELEASE:

V9.5 is a Snapshot-Release. Currently i have reached the source-engine limits in almost all areas. Unfortunately the limits are quite low. The current build of the source engine can't render detailed open areas or nice foliage without hitting this limits.
(Compared to the Cry-Engine: Source engines 100 % entity limit equals approx. 5 % of the Cry-Engine limit)

I'll take a break now, hoping the next engine version will give the possibilities, i need.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This does require Cinematic Mod v9 base. (Google it)

Now he says he has untill VALVe makes Source less limited. I assume he'll still do bugfixes.

Not this shit again.

Yeah. IIRC wasn't there a big hissy fit about how shit the community was or something?
maybe it was justified, I can't remember.

I'm d/loading this latest Fakefactory mod right now. It's close to 9 gigs in size and I upgraded my laptop to 4 gigs and hopefully will be able to play this. Anyone playing with it yet?

I remeber seeing an old version of fakefactory that made all the women look like they were cheap whores with godawful makeup on.

I'm pretty sure he kept the whores- i mean models, and just made them look "SHINIER OH MY GOD".

Okay I saw this mod on Fileplanet's front page and thought "cool, HL2 in high def with added eyecandy".

I found this forum in order to get a general feel of what the enthusiast community might think of it, and this thread seems to give it a thumbs-down? Can anybody be a little more specific as to what might be wrong with this modification?

Also, I only own HL2. I never bought EP1 or EP2. By the way, what is EP1 and EP2? Anyway, do I have to have EP1 and EP2 in order to play this mod?

Episode One and Two are continuations of Half Life 2's storyline. I highly recommend you buy them. As far as I know you dont need the Episodes to run the mod.

Oh, and from what I can remember a lot of people dont like it because of the horrendous character replacement models.

the first FF mods were great with the added high-def textures but once the models came in, it became a crap mod.

That, and -- while some of the replacement textures are very nice -- FakeFactory's way of making things more detailed is generally to "ADD MOAR GRUNGE".

I know it's a post apocalyptic world and all, but seriously, the Combine do not store their weapons in vats of chemicals and feces.

Not only that, Cinematic Mod replaces the existing music (sacrilige!) with some modern electronic/orchestral film score stuff (presumably ripped from half a dozen different movies) that's not nearly as memorable as the game's existing soundtrack, replaces the Strider sounds with the sounds of the tripods from the War of the Worlds movie (WTF), "rebalances" the gameplay by making all sorts of random changes to enemy and weapon stats which, while I haven't spent much time testing them in-game, seem very dubious and unbalanced to me. It also adds some horrible new weapon sounds.

Some things can use improvement (the particularly blurry textures and the lower quality models in the game), but a lot of what Cinematic Mod changes isn't broken, and doesn't need to be fixed. The mod changes the feel of the game and for the worse.

It would take me days to download all the FakeFactory stuff, and I could have sworn that they quit too. :\
