Cities XL Beta sign-ups start today!

looks very promising.

right now i'm thinking about how old (extinct) style games would benefit from modern technology (graphics). this game is one example.
think how much flight/space sims would benefit from modern graphics. i'd also love to see a Deer Hunter type game with Crysis graphics or the added realism more computing power could bring.
it's a shame these genres of games are long dead.

From playing their previous games it'll probably be Sim City Lite. I hope it's not though.

Are Eve/X3 really not good looking enough?

as for eve/X3...yeah they're nice, but i was kinda hoping for a Freespace type of game.
yeah sure...but i believe there is still unused potential.

****! i just came

I really wish they'd post more media for this game. Hoping for a beta slot.

Registered a day ago, and I was going to make a thread about it, but just noticed this one.

I am really hoping this is a big hit; because EA really needs a good kick in the arse. Having a great game produced by a smaller rival who actually listens to the community may not do that, but at least they will get my hard-earned cash.

Son of a ****ing BITCH!

I've been waiting for this game and I don't even have a video card that can play it. DAMMIT!

I was just looking on the impressions by the site; simtropolis

This caught my eye

As Mayor, you set the conditions for your Private Sector to grow and thrive (which include businesses and residents). You are directly responsible for planning and deploying infrastructure, and public support services, such as schools, police stations and hospitals. Each support service has an area of effect, which take into account the speed and efficiency of your transportation networks, instead of simply calculating distance. So, as long as your service is well served by your road networks, you’ll enjoy optimal performance, even if it isn’t necessarily located in the centre of your city.

So transportation will play a bigger role this time round, which is all good because I will buy the Transport GEM (when its release; hopefully comes included in the initial release)

Not a fan of sims but this looks pretty damn cool.

Anybody know how this is coming along?

I don't know, I kinda like this idea. The whole "Interact with other people's city" sounds really awesome.

I'm downloading the Beta now (Fileplanet Subscriber). It looks really good, been itching for a Sim City game for a while now.

It's 2.6gb, so will report back in a couple of days.

And 'The Hunter' looks awesome! I loved the Deer Hunter series, thanks for sharing. :)

If someone manages to have a key for this game and doesn't want to use it. I'll hug and kiss you for it.

I got a KEY!~!!!!!

but if i dont get a chance to use it because im leaving for Europe soon ill give it away..

Go to Fileplanet

WOO BABY!

I went just now and got a code.

EVERYBODY GO TO FILEPLANET AND GET ONE *NOW*!

Don't even have to be a paid subscriber. Just registered.

I rescind my previous statement, as I have now come into the possession of not one, but two keys!

Hmm... I'm going to have to play it some more to get a better feel for it. My first impressions are a bit chaotic.

I don't even have any impressions yet because my shitty internet in conjunction with their shitty p2p downloader meant the download stopped at 20%. I'm waiting on games.on.net to host the files should my current download fail.

Incredibly similar to SimCity. The whole online thing is pretty cool, but I was having trouble viewing other people's cities.

I think its because they have to plant a park, for other people to visit or something

I didn't realize this game was going to have a monthly fee on top of it's retail price. Makes a me a little less interested in it now. It's online features are rather limited. All I noticed was little chat box and supposed trade with other people's cities.

The whole MMO angle leaves a stale taste in my mouth. The lack of singleplayer isn't helpful. Currently the servers are bogged down and every action that relies on them takes bloody ages. Meanwhile from the get go the game seems fairly limited.

MC worked so thoroughly on the PO taking out dozens of features we asked since the beginning (regions, terraforming, building on slopes, complex transports, modular facilities, free custom content creation, ...) that we don't even know they'll include them after release for a plethora of reasons and 'technical issues.'

Wow, sounds like the game is on a path to failure already.

How's it run? What are ya'll specs?
