I wear "tees" with jeans, and flip flops. I'd like to appear a bit more... professional, so I'm going to try and wear "t-shirts"

The point isn't to appear to be a preppy douche bag, it's just to appear less... childish.

Now I know some of you guys (ok, ComradeBadger) are into the whole classy clothes things, so I want some tips on avoiding "omg he's such a wannabe prep" by wearing something that I'm not sure about.

Any suggestions on looking more suave in general is appreciated. Please use this thread to discuss your personal clothing issues.

A&E..... Hollister........ *sigh*

There are ways you can look good without that crap. I hate those stores. Proffesional my ars.

Theres much cheaper methods of looking "proffesional","suave", "handsome", or "more adult", whatever you are going for. Don't result to investing money in that. You can find just as good, actually better quality for a better price.

Yeah but... where. I've looked at Target, Walmart, and Belles.

Those are fine. Also don't worry about people labeling you. They will do it no matter what cause people are douche bags. Also, I would suggest more variety, maybe get some polos as well.

Get a nice cashmere sweater with a simple pattern to it and whear a regular white collared shirt under it. Something youthful, not a Mr Rogers type sweater.

Yeah but... where. I've looked at Target, Walmart, and Belles.

Stores like that such as target, kohls, hell even walmart should have plenty if you look hard enough. It's about matching it up right, even if it comes from a store that people would consider "unfashionable".
But look at your smaller clothing stores around you, or ones that don't have as big of a name brand. Just hunt around, thats what I usually do.

Also, some may disagree, but thrift stores can be amazing. You can find awesome stuff there that you would not find anywhere else.

god... i cant dress nice, ever. if i do, i feel out of place, restricted, boring, and not myself.

You want classy casual?

J. Ferrar.

Darkside swears by it.

Those look pretty good - I wouldn't immediately think "arsehole" of someone wearing them - but then fashion and what it signifies differs from place to place.

First off, the clothing offered at Hollister and/or American Eagle isn't crap. It isn't too look "suave", etc. Its just to look good. I can tell you one thing, the price is too much for their clothes at American Eagle. However, Hollister (me favourite store) is IMO perfect.

I just wear what I want any day I want. If you wear clothes from American Eagle, its not going to detract your "professional" appearance. Its how you act and such that does. I've been wearing American Eagle, Hollister, Gap, Old Navy and pretty much anything from anywhere my entire life.

Just wear what you think you'll look good in.. Duh.

To be honest, I have no idea what I just typed. I just woke up a little bit ago and really don't feel like retyping/reunderstanding what zombie said or anything. So if you don't understand what I said, neither do i! :D

Sorry if I came off rude BTW.

I wouldn't go as far as Wal-Mart. Have you ever looked at their clothes? The material they use feels like that cheap thin crap. It is horrendous. Also, they carry stupid humour tees and the like. Another also, they have the shittiest designs/material for what they consider a button up/dress shirt. Terrible quality.

I will agree with Target and Kohls, however, because Target is the upscaled version of Wal-Mart and as are their clothes. I used to get clothes from Kohls when I was a tyke and from what I remember, they carried mostly everything at a reasonable price with very good quality.

And for those thrift stores, oh how I do love them. Around me I have several to go to. They all offer their own little unique wardrobe. I found so many shirts, blazers, and jackets. However, I don't consider going there for a professional look would be much help at all.

By the way, Pesh, if you ever need help with clothing/what looks good, hit me up on Steam. Like I said before, I've been in retail my whole life. Plus, my sister who is very, very fashionable worked in retail for about 7 years, and she is the one that usually picked out/bought my clothes. So I know a thing or two about what looks good, etc.

And to everyone who actually read my post and got this far,
DANCE PARTY!! *Camera zooms out and rotates by 25 degrees to the right and then pans back in rotating it another 50 degrees to the left and so forth with flashing lights*

You call shirts t-shirts? LOLWUT!?

haha I was thinking the same thing when I read that

"I want some tips on avoiding "omg he's such a wannabe prep" by wearing something that I'm not sure about."

Just wear what you want... if you think it looks good, wear it, if you don't, then don't wear it. It's as simple as that

I liked the 2 shirts you posted btw

"A&E..... Hollister........ *sigh*"

What's wrong with them..? This is a serious question btw, we don't have them here (as far as I'm aware :eye: )

No you can't. I don't know those stores that Pesmerga posted, but 50 bucks for a good shirt (assuming they're good) is a decent price. You can buy a same-ish looking shirt for 25 bucks somewhere else, yes, but the fabrics and quality are simply shit. The cheap ones are often partially synthetic, which means they feel terrible on your skin and are sweaty. And in my experience, they also easily tear.

If I had the money, I'd shop here:

www.planetfunk.com
www.revolveclothing.com
www.urbanoutfitters.com

Next time you're at college or somewhere check out how other people dress, and try to adapt your style with theirs so you come up with something that looks good (and not too weird).

Ahh.. Urban Outfitters is amazing. I love their clothes.

Oh by the way, Pesh, try H&M. They have a really good, clean, professional style for the most part, and their prices are very, very, very nice. I bought a brand new sweater from there for 25$. I shall take a sexy picture with it later today.

Do I count five tops that guy is wearing! :O

But the sheer awesomeness of leisure suits fuse them together to form one super-word.

You are correct Shamrock - cropped from the motivator.

^ Shamrock made a good suggestion with H&M.

AE, Hollister / Abercrombie / A&F (these three are under the same parent company anyway) are ok. I wouldn't necessarily say the clothes make you look more 'professional' but rather, maybe a bit more mature. Although one thing to keep in mind is, those three labels are notorious for being worn by preppies. Whatever. Like many of the people who've said before, it's less about labels / style of clothing and more on whether the clothes look good on you. Although avoid becoming a walking billboard of these brands, that'll definitely give you the preppy-vibe that you want to avoid.

But to be honest, I find their products on a tad bit of the overpriced side. Online ordering is probably your best bet since you'll get a hell of a lot more variety.

I already dress like a retard so it's ok. I try new things every day.

I need to start dressing classier. I'm stuck in the same t-shirt with hoodie and jeans combo I've been in for the past five years.

Hmm...

This is about the most fashionable thing I own:

Okay, not really, but it's pretty much strictly t-shirt/jeans/cargos for me at the mo. Maybe a jacket if I'm feeling adventurous... or cold.

Eh, I'll update my wardrobe (read: box in the corner) when I actually have the money. And by that I mean as soon as I stop spending it all on games. Which is roughly never.

Wow...sounds like a lot of people here need some variety. I guess I am guilty, mostly because I am too broke to buy anything. I guess the best way to get some variety is to keep your eyes open and look at what other people are wearing. Perhaps find a couple people who's style you like and look to see what they wear.

Man... I so want that shirt.

I normally wear AE and Hollister clothing (nothing wrong with these places, I don't see what the big deal is), and collegiate shirts I can get at the uni bookstore. If I had the money though I would totally dress like James Bond all the time with really nice brand clothing
