Just looking at the image of the Tower that dissapears in to the clouds. Now I was guessing that it could go all the way up to space like space elavator kind of thing. Which in turn could lead to zero gravity manipluator fights. It could be like the Zen part of HL1. Its only speculation but I like the idear.

I don't think it's plausible to build a tower that high even with alien tech.

indeed i thought the same thing although it does look a bit unfinished as yet and i dont think it will go all the way to space and freefall.

That's the Citadel, learn that.

And yes, I'm on for that. It's been said we're going to venture inside of it.

read 3001 it's got a good take on the space elevator premise.

Okay let's admit for the sake of argument that it does indeed go into space, why would (in your opinion) the combine build it that way?

i think that you will visit the citidel.

Personally I think Dr Breen will be the final bad guy and will also be the administrator from Black Mesa .. G-Man aint the adminastrator you see :p

In many shots and vids you can see the end of the citadel. And it isn't unfinished, there is a piece moving up and down "processing" (chewing?) the city. Or so is my theory.

lol.. It does not reach into space. get over it.

ask valve if you want..

It would be a long ride.

but there is a big nasa symbol on that img DaLys... OMG the citadel is a govt conspiracy LOL

And why do people say Zen? Isn't Zen religion-related word? It's Xen! And my theories: The citadel seems to be eating the city, it might be growing itself. But who knows..

Eating? i just thought it was stripping it of materials to attach to the citedel itself. Or does it actually "digest" the materials which are then processed into components.

Just like the Trapper Keeper hum0n!

Yea, it's a 3D-image made by NASA that is planning on building a "space elevator".

Space elevators aren't made using 'towers', a cable is dropped from orbit. If you tried to build a tower into space it would collapse under the weight.
Dropping a cable down to earth on the other hand will work. Because of the earth's rotation the elevator will actually be trying to 'lift' off the ground, it needs to be anchored. The base will not be taking the weight of the whole cable, it's there to stop the top of the elevator from flying into space.

I thought things were weightless in space, also as the earth is rotating, everytime you went up this elevator you'd end up in a different part of space all the time, where would the thing go?!

It's a "Citadel" well it dosn't look like a city on a hill to me? maybe im too literal. What ever it is I like it and I recon valve has some nice supprises up thier sleave.

The Citadel is a piston, it is moving the jaw like gates, that are destryoing the city, If you look at the bottom behind the metal jaws theres a big black metal wall. Personally i think Breen finds city 17 to be somewhat interesting and has a purpose. Thus he is clearing the city to make way for a new construction....

Sure, as long as you're millions of miles away from any gravity fields. If, say, a satellite in orbit around the planet just stopped, it'd pretty much immediately fall through the atmosphere.

It's the orbital movement that gives the apparent weightlessness. Think of it as being in freefall, but the thing your falling towards is moving away from you as fast as you're moving towards it. Actually, that's a fib, but it's a pretty good one as fibs go...

...also as the earth is rotating, everytime you went up this elevator you'd end up in a different part of space all the time, where would the thing go?!

Uh, what? The end of the elevator always stops at the same point above the Earth, as it's in a geosynchronous orbit.

man this thread is shit ! lets say its just a big tower and whatever its build for, we will see it soon enough !

As well as that it would have to be very high before the top was even in space... it's not as if part of it being in space would magically make the whole structure weightless...

An old shot from a video called: halflife2_divx_high.avi (see attached image)

this video shows what appears to be either one of three things:

1. A finished, built citadel,
2. An old design for the citadel,
3. A seperate tower altogether.

I'm going with no.2 personally, although I believe it still stands to be the same height and purpose (whatever it may be) as shown here.

EDIT:Just watched the Source_HDR02.exe bink and it does stop abruptly. To abrupt for it to be disappearing in to the clouds.

thats definatley an old model for the citadel...thats why it sucks

Well I'm happy you have an opinion with no relevance but try and stick on the subject eh?

:dozey: Maybe the Combine is building a huge corporate tower as a start to beating Microsoft. Combinesoft :naughty: .

The other question is:

Are there other citadels in City16,15,14...?

i have a feeling there isnt, i think Breen is bringing down city 17 for a reason, like he said "decided to set up...my administraton here. In the citadel..etc"
