It seems like they brought nothing new to the table except a whole lot of bump mapping. Seriously, everything is bump mapped but the desert part where you enter the mission has no foliage at all. It's just barren. Not even a shrub.
It has been consolized. When you walk up to certain ledges, you have the option to press space in order to climb up on it. Reminds me of Socom and Ghost Recon 2 and all of those console games. All of the fighting is focused in a pretty small area.
Any game that uses only one of the two is not realistic. If you die instantly from something (like a large bullet to the head), you're not going to be doing anything that requires a death animation. Conversely, if you get shot in the gut and bleed to death a ragdoll just won't be able to pull it off. Then, there are situations where elements of both are necessary for the character to react realistically. I can't wait until games start dynamically doing stuff like in the naturalmotion videos in real-time. That would kick ass.AmishSlayer said:Ragdolls != Realistic
Ragdolls are for fun, variety of animated deaths are for realism.

though i'l get the demo and judge it for myself.
But it is! Now you can mow down REALISTICALLY LOOKING mindless drone enemies! \o/Mr-Fusion said:That demo was crap.
Bare in mind i hated the first game, i was hoping Cod2 would be a bit more than just mowing down mindless drone enemies.

well put, pretty much sums up my thoughts about it, definately not blown away although i'll prolly still give it a go when released depending on reaction/reviews...CR0M said:I was sooooo looking forward to this game for ages, but having just played it, i'm not so sure.
Playing the demo, the gameplay is identical to CoD1. The hud is also unchanged. The textures are nicer in gun detail, but the low res scenery textures and generic bump mapping when you get close up to stuff is old-tech, tired and totally unnecessary. Nice character detail with realistic faces though, but the plastic hands still let them down. Bad clipping and no physics are another step backward, but what really leaped out at me was the lack of character shadows. I mean, wtf? a fps with no character shadows? come on.
Nice smoke effects, though.
In short, the demo I just played is so similar to the first game it was like playing an expansion - these guys have done very little to improve on old technology, i'd be mighty pissed if I was publishing it.
edit - oh yeah, forgot the AI - enemies that throw grenades a lot more doesn't make them smarter. The fact that they kept throwing them at the indestructible wooden box I was hiding behind in fact makes them pretty damn stupid.
