CoD: WaW Wii screenshots released... ew.

Of course, it's the wii, so it's not going to have stellar graphics, and those screenies have probably been compressed and configured and whatnot.

Looks pretty damn good for the Wii. Stop setting your standards for graphics so ****ing high you pieces of horse shit.

So...why does anyone own a Wii now? I can understand the first couple months are lovely but don't you eventually start to want to play next-gen games again?

That isn't that bad for the Wii.

I think Dalamari said it best though.. If I wanted to play Xbox, Gamecube, PS2 games, I would own one of those consoles.

Wait a few years for Wii HD. Oh that's right Nintendo we could have that NOW! If a Wii game isn't full of bright flashly lights and colours it's failed in my opinion.

IMO realistic looking game never looked great on the Wii. I mean, there are so many shining examples of wonderful looking games that make up for technical limitations of the console (Metroid, SSB, Galaxy...) because of their style.

Graphics look fine, people expect too much these days.

Graphics look fine, people expect too much these days.

People expect too much because that's the age we live in. With all this technology at hand, you'd think a game company could have produced within the time frame.

NES - 8 bit gaming system
SNES - 16 bit gaming system
N64 - ...if you don't know this one, go kill yourself.. 64 bit gaming system
Gamecube - Change to disk and an overhaul in graphics
Wii - Uhh... A gimmick (Motion control..) Same graphics as Gamecube except for a game here and there

With each iteration of their consoles, the hardware at hand was basically the best you could get. Instead with the Wii, they use old hardware and tack on a gimmick that was basically a live or die choice IMO. You have to keep upgrading graphics to keep people happy. As much as everyone likes to reminisce about the 8 bit days, the HDTVs, Blu-ray movies, and all this HD content that keeps getting thrown at us, we expect a higher quality + better looking game especially since Nintendo basically set that ground when they kept upgrading from 8 bit to 16 bit and so forth.

It's not a question as to why do we care about graphics, it's a question as to why can't a company provide the consumers that are being fed HD content on an hourly basis a product to suffice instead of a stepping stone to their next product. Then again, that basically is Nintendo's business motif as of late. Release a good product, then re-release it a little bit later with different colours and the same specs, then re-release it again and change it's shape a la Game Boy to Game Boy Light to Game Boy Colour, etc.

To sum up this post, Nintendo set the path for each console generation upgrading graphics instead of staying exactly the same.

That's my two cents.

I dunno what, it can't be bad for Nintendo for having WaW under it's titles, it's better to have than to not have. But, I highly doubt they are taking this title thinking it's gonna make a killing.

The Wii is a console where it relies heavily on exclusives and their answer for the upcoming miserable sales for WaW would be The Conduit, even having said that though, that's probably not going to do so great IMO.

Graphics aside though, Wii is strong because it's unique approach to this generation's console's and HD Wii sounds nice, the Wii has LOTS LOTS and LOTS of potential to bring new shit out.

The HD Wii would probably introduce Head Tracking, then the next CoD might probably have a better chance to sell on the Wii than other consoles and if they decide to add a Blu Ray functionality think of the exclusive features you can do with movies, games and simply TV with HeadTracking. The Wii is definitely going to introduce this technology(even though somebody else has, lol) and it's gonna be here to stay.

ewwwwww, is this 1997?

stupid wii, trying to compete with actual game consoles

I doubt Nintendo would purchase rights to Blu-ray. I'm thinking they will make their own medium such as the disks used with the Game Cube.

However, Nintendo needs to get in bed with a bunch of game producers to have their fair share of exclusives that aren't specially for 4-10 year olds. I realize they have their share of their OWN exclusives, but they need more than that to keep charade up.

I am aware of the idea of Quality over Quanity.

But in the vision of Nintendo and it's Wii :P, the sales figures definitely show that they've got their shit together.

I just make my own shit up on these titles.
Call of duty: world av warcraft wiizing

That's because it was the cheapest to start with and is also the most incredibly kid friendly system ever. They've been building their kid friendly motif since NES and with the Wii, I think they've finally figured it out precisely. It just makes sense for parents to get the Wii. They see the cheap price and cartoony characters. The kids see the colours and cartoons. Plus, everyone knows Mario can do no harm. Unless it's that picture of Ron Jeremy as Mario.

Very Well Said. (Except for the horse poop part)

but don't you eventually start to want to play next-gen games again?

Thats what a PC is for silly.

lol, a "Wii HD" Would that bring the visuals up to par with say, a PS2? If you want purdy console graphics, then go waste your money on a PS3 or x360. If you want fun & sometimes downright silly games, then get a Wii. What it lacks visual wise, it more than makes up for it in the fun & creative factor area.

I would trade my Wii for either a PS3 or x360, but only so I could sell it, buy a Wii again & then have enough money left over for a few games. :bounce:

Suggesting the Wii isn't 'next gen'? ;)

The Wii is the new party game console - it's replaced the DC. The most fun gaming sessions i've had this gen - by a considerable margin - have been with a bunch of mates and the Wii. 4 player Boom Blox is about as good as it gets. The 360, PS3, PC are great when i'm alone, but they gather dust when people come round.

I haven't seen anything 'next gen' on the PC yet, but can think of a good few examples on the Wii.

You guys can complain all you want. I'll be having fun playing games for what they are.

I'm kind of surprised that there is an FPS market on the wii, but not that COD5 looks under par. There's a DS version too, so why are forming a bully circle around the Wii for being the ugliest kid in class?
That's because it was the cheapest to start with and is also the most incredibly kid friendly system ever..
But 360 is now cheaper, and Wii still rules the roost. Hell, i'm still holding off on buying one because they're far too expensive in my eyes. But as they say, 'if you're everyone's second place, you're first place overall'. Nintendo saw themselves in free fall and made some incredibly smart business decisions in order to save themselves. Perhaps next generation, they'll try something a little more technologically impressive with all the money they're making now?

I wouldn't rule it out: Just think. They make a cheap, low risk, wide appeal console one generation, and return in the next with the same specs as the other consoles PLUS a generation of successful new gimmick tech and a definitive brand identity.

Remember my Moogly chum, you're speaking of social interaction in a FPS PC Gaming forum. You'll find little agreement here :P My house makes do with the occasional session of Singstar, before shuffling back to our rooms, unaware that there was ever anyone else in the same room as us and the PS3.

The Wii is fine for what it is, the only problem is that it' grossly overpriced. The only reason it's doing so well is pure consumer ignorance. Even when it was the cheapest console it was still incredibly overpriced.

Hell, you make a Wiimote like attachment for PS2 and you have all the functionality and graphical capability of a Wii right there. The $250 went towards a piece of shit, cheap piece of hardware that's been outdated for almost a decade. Nintendo simply isn't giving customers their money's worth.

It's not just about being a graphics whore or whatever people say to bullshit their way out of the obvious - the console is a ****ing ripoff. The ONLY reason they're able to do it successfully is because they're selling primarily to people who don't know any better.

And something else that people gloss over - the games ****ing suck. They're dumbed down, kiddified versions of better games and they get old VERY quickly. The market is flooded with crap and even the "good" games are pretty awful (if they weren't made by Nintendo no one would notice). Galaxy is the only exception ... a good platformer ... but so was Ratchet and Clank (and plenty of others) so it's not exactly special.

But... but... you can wiggle the controller! Innovation, man!

You're completely failing to see beyond your own tastes while also putting a monetray value on fun, which is pointless.

Pretty much every group of friends I have has a Wii in their home - the same goes for many of mine and their family members. That's a good cross section of hardcore, casual and non gamers who all enjoy the Wii regularly. The majority of these people would have no use for a 360, PS3, or high end PC - and would certainly have felt ripped off had they purchased one - yet think the Wii is great.

When it comes to enjoyment per pound the Wii has been by far the best value console for me this generation. Call them kiddified if you like, but i'll take Samba De Amigo/Boom Blox/Wii Bowling/Mario Kart etc etc with a bunch of friends over pretty much anything else. As for getting old quickly, Wii Bowling is proving more fun now than at launch - having 20 odd regular players, all with tiny feuds and high scores to beat, turns it into something rather excellent.

Guys, you just have to get use to it.EA is stupid. They just make a game in a short period of time and rely on luck for it to be a success. That is EA Games.

They are very lucky, because Mass Effect and Spore are best sellers. Will the luck end? (in this case EA is the publisher, of course)

it has to

EDIT: I mean the DRM is really ruining them

See I have probably 3 friends in my area that actually has a Wii, and the consensus that I've come up with is that they don't play it on a regular basis. Hell, my friend let me borrow his for a month or so due to that fact. I found that the Wii is definitely entertaining, but I couldn't get myself wrapped up in it. It might be because at the time I borrowed it, the only game that was virtually out was Zelda and I've never been a Zelda fan. But even that, they've told me their Wii was collecting dust waiting for games to come out for it.

It's just the fact that it feels more like a casual system where as a game comes out you play it for a week, put it down for a month, another game comes out, rinse and repeat. You can almost always find me on my 360 since my friends are actually on that, and I can interact with them. To me, it's all about the ability to play local and online, but the Wii fails in that aspect when their version of online is giving your friend a long code.

I just think people rushed to buy it thanks to it's gimmick of motion control without knowing the full specs of the console. I realize the Wii is definitely an extremely fun console when you have a bunch of friends in the same room, but that doesn't regularly happen in my area where my friends just want to sit inside and play videogames.

Also, someone call me when they decide to release Donkey Kong 64 rehashed as Donkey Kong Wii. I'll purchase a Wii just for that. It was probably my favourite game on the 64.

So...why does anyone own a Wii now?
Come on now, there are lots of great games out for the Wii and many that are coming out that are just plain awesome like:

Muramasa: The Demon Blade
MadWorld
Fatal Frame IV
The Conduit
The Raving Rabbids Series
Sadness

...and many others that we know are coming like the new Pikmin, new Mario, the new Kid Icarus, new Zelda, etc etc etc. It has had great games and will continue to get great games because the install base is ridiculous. I cannot think of this many 360 that I want that are exclusive to that system.

FPS games can be better on this system than any other even without the HD graphics because the controls (when implemented properly as in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption) are far and away the best FPS control scheme available.

I realize the Wii is definitely an extremely fun console when you have a bunch of friends in the same room, but that doesn't regularly happen in my area where my friends just want to sit inside and play videogames.

I think this is what it all comes down to. If there's other people around with Wiis who enjoy getting together, doing silly games on Wii Fit (or whatever game) then it's great fun. If there's just a few people around with a Wii, it gets boring fast. Wii Sports will never work with just a few ppl - you need loads, who all play together quite often.

As a party game system it is easily the best there has ever been. As a traditional console it has been a bit of a let down (yet still home to arguably some of the better games - in the case of Galaxy, the best imo - of this gen).

You know, just reading some of the comments in this threads makes me want to facepalm hard.

It's a video game system folks... are you having fun or are you so worried about eye-candy that the playing experience is secondary? If you find the 360 or PS3 fun, great! If you find the Wii fun, great! If you feel a need to bitch about the Wii because "it has shitty graphics"... not great. IS IT FUN? That's the only question you need to ask.

Oh, and for the comment about the Wii being overpriced? It took about 2 years for the 360 to hit the $200 mark. And it isn't even a "complete" console compared to the other versions. The Wii was $250 from the start. Don't forget $599 $599 $599. To top it all off, Microsoft and Sony are selling the consoles at a loss. Nintendo isn't.

*makes a note to take everything Warbie says with a grain of salt from now on*

I think there's some excellent wii games out there.

but the problem is. it has dreamcast syndrome.

when it tries to do what all the other systems are doing, it fails miserably. But when it does new and innovative things. . . sometimes crazy things. . . it succeeds.

unfortunately as long as people keep buying the next Imagine Babyz game, Nintendo doesnt really have to work too hard to sell things. so why try?

*gets on high horse*

When peasants are the primary buyers, all you shall get are games for peasants.

Why the grain of salt? It has given me more fun than the 360 and PS3 - it's what I do with friends after the pub, after work, and on lazy sundays. The other consoles don't get turned on when ppl are around.

I don't turn my consoles on at all when people are around and I have a Wii. If kids are around the enjoy it however.

No I get irritated at games that try to look pretty and use the bare basics of Wii controls to make the game work. Most if not all of such games are much better suited to the bigger consoles.

/edit Oh god I just watched that last youtube video. I hate advertising with people trying hard at the game. Who in the hell ducks and weaves in real life?
