Oh boy , I cant wait until Half Life 2 comes out , "THIS GAME SUCKS, *trivial matter here*"

The game is pretty fun , the only thing I would ask is for a save point before bosses , I got to the final boss but I didnt have enough lives or ammo to beat him , and Im not going to play back through all of that anytime soon.

dont sweat it, basically all you get is your name on the high score list ;D

Uh, I'd say a bug that stopped him from completing it isn't necessarily trivial. Sure he could just go back through, but it's still a pretty bad bug if it stops you from going further.

those people that say codename:gordon ran flawlessly, please post they're specs..some of the bugs like loss of control might be attached to lack of system "goodness"

My hidden hope was that if you beat the game it would show you a new HL2 movie or some such thing , dissappointment :(

lol, i guess..far enought

WELL C U ALL TOMORROW NN

It's fun, but gaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh the BUGS... (couldnt get on laddders anymore all of a sudden, and couldnt throw any more grenades either)

And why is there no save option?

I have restarted the game 3 times now and its getting annoying..

High Score After Beating the Game

My first run through, on normal. I only lost 1 life, and that was when I was tinkering with a pattern to beat the strider.

I am a little angry that the high score submit feature doesn't work...but oh well.

The strider boss battle was really great. Pity the developers didn't code it in C++. Great game though, I will be playing through it 6-8 more times on hard tonight, and will write a full walk-through with enemy layouts, secrets, etc.

The ONLY thing good about this game is the graphics.
NEVER make a FULLSCREEN flash game with nothing but JPEGS EVERYWHERE.

BAD idea. A full screen action packed flash game? Fools! What were they thinking!?

I found the game to run very slow in parts with 3 or more guys. But the worst part is, not only would it run at 2 fps, all your key strokes would be DELAYED. Which SUCKED.

I couldn't take it anymore and stopped at C17.

The Gunship Battle sucked. I thought we would actually be able to drive the buggy, not move it across the screen. It was an extremely dragged on scene. Lasted way too long, and hardly playable with delayed movement and 3 fps.

If only the gameplay could match up with the graphics...

All in all, if you haven't gotten this game yet, or have a lower than average PC, DO NOT play it. Only will get you frustrated.

And now I am doen ranting, I really thought this game would keep me busy for atleast more than an hour. :/

Sorry if I sound like a jerk, but flash just doesn't mix with this kinda game. :/

Indeed, like I said it is sad that they decided to keep the development in flash. 2-D games with high image resolution and effect use should never be developed in flash, AND run at full screen resolution.

The developers can fix the slowdown issues by allowing the user to tag a window mode, but they could of just simplified the problem by hiring a c++/delphi programmer. I would of been glad to take up the project, but that isn't the point.

The game is great, and is marred by the slowdown, which does kill it.

Personally, I didn't have any slowdown, but that is because my CPU is a monster. I did, however, run the game on my 1.6 athlon, and ran through quickly to city17. The slowdown is terrible.

Bottom line though, expect atleast 1 patch for this game to enable a window mode for the low end users[which really are not that low end at all. It is the developers fault for making it in flash].

theres people seriously getting a slowdown off of this? please...

If you are saying we are dumb because we aren't -- rich enough to buy video cards/gaming isn't our entire life -- then I would just... do.. something. I mean c'mon, it not our fault.

But not only should they let us play in windowed mode, but Flash has a quality setting (High, Medium, and Low) which I am suprised they didn't put that in there for us to change.

Meh.

Dont believe you looked then , there is a graphical quality slection, I believe it defaults to best.

I didn't have any slowdown (T-Bred B @ 2 GHz) but I can't say the framerate was high.

I liked the game, it was fun to play. I got to City-17 but got stuck and made a few weird jumps which got me killed (jumped out of the level) and I can't be arsed to play the whole game through again. That's the major drawback, no save function.

But kudos to the creators!

Is there a bug or something? How do you guys expect to play Half-Life 2 if you can't play this crap...?

The game was great, but, even when turning the settings to low on a couple medium test machines it chugged. Uncalled for in a 2-D game. IT IS a great game, but denying that it is ruined by flash programming is crazy. The game would of ran smooth as silk on even low end pcs if coded by a good engineer in c++.

It was cute and fun, a great little slice of HL2 themed silliness and fandom. Get over yourselves!

You don't seem to know how flash works. Flash generally isn't well suited for high resolution graphics + high resolution video modes when dealing with games. Flash is usually used for movies, and when used for games, the programmer has to make the view size low to keep a decent frame-rate...or use crappy picture resolution.

If this was coded in delphi or another complaint language, this would be running VERY smoothly.

Comparing a flash game to a coded and SCALED C++ game isn't even in the same ballpark.

BTW--I think the development team did an AMAZING job with it, and I especially like how Valve[seemed] to give them the new sound effects for the weapons. I just would prefer it to be coded in another language--just from a programmers perspective

Please, sir, if you would be so kind as to climb up, and start the rot-- wait, kinda went off track there...

Ahem

Please, sir, if you would be so kind as to realize that Flash games chug your system like CRAZY. Especially when these games/animations have JPEGS in them. If you ran this game with no lag whatsoever that means you have an excellent video card. Good for you.

Isn't it just becaust Flash doesn't use DirectDraw?

Yup--That is the reason

However unless I am mistaken Codename: Gordon IS USING SWFXXL which DOES use DirectDraw.

The amount of high resolution images, rendering, and enemy path/weapon routines code don't help though. The Flash light effect is suicide for flash. Not sure who had the idea for that one =p.

Yay, my 9600p isn't crap after all.

I really liked it. Reminded me of that old game called Abuse. By the way, for those whose computers can't run this, good luck running the real HL2.

haha yeah Abuse, I still got that on floppy somewhere, great game ;)

That game is INCREDIBLY resource intensive for such a simple 2D shooter. One can almost guarantee that one will get a better average framerate in HL2 than one gets in Codename Gordon. What have we learned from this? Don't use Flash. If that's all you know how to do... learn something else. Flash will get you nowhere.

I feel sorry for the programmers of this game! It took them so much effort and time just for a 15 minutes of time killing. Poor guys :( Good work!

Can anyone access the Scoreboard and tell me the lowest score, so I know if I should be pissed or not for it not letting me submit my score?

I think its more the procesor that makes a difference, after all there is no 3d in this game. I have Radeon 8500, P4 3GHz, and the games runs smooth all along.

btw, its great.

Argh I must know what the highest scores are, so at least I know whether or not it mattered that Steam wasn't letting me submit my score. Someone please let me know!

Just played it, and I don't think it's fun at all, I'd rather play something else in my spare time : (
