Aw man!!!! It's finally here. The best rally racing game ever made just got better? I can't wait to find out. I don't see how it couldn't be twice as good as the 2005 version.
W00t. wait, why am I excited. This is eventually coming to PC RIGHT?
yES!
Holy shit, I just came:

Need this game on my PC
Need a decent controller to play on my PC
Need a decent GFX card to play it well on my PC
That all costs money
D:
The PC demo is out simultaneously.Codemasters has released a playable demo for Colin McRae: DIRT, allowing you to try out the next installment of the series which will be released on 15th June across all PAL territories for the Xbox 360 and PC, and later this year for the PlayStation 3. The demo contains a Crossover race with players competing against Colin McRae himself. Also, up to 100 players can compete for the record on the Sardinian rally stage at Mounte di li Conchi.
From what I hear, Richard Burns Rally is vastly superior in the realism department.
But I wouldn't know. ****ing game won't work on my PC
Who cares, it'll just play similarly to the previous ones.
Notice you mention nothing about the gameplay. Which is exactly what I said.I love the texture resolution, the new car models, the intricate car model damage with slow motion, the new tracks, the incredible user interface, the really high resolution textures, the greater than HD resolution, the improved tire skid and scrub sounds, the dust effects, the new tracks, etc. I love how the camera goes with the suspension now.
I tested the PC version of the demo that I downloaded from www.gamershell.com (Thanks for the bandwidth, have some traffic!) with no registration, and no wait, and at a great speed. I'm not sure if there are any differences from the 360 version.ITS SO UNFAIR
I'm stuck at work all day ... I need to get my ass home to download this demo.
You know that rally racing is with 1 car on the track to try and get the fastest time?I tried the online mode. created a user name and password, and off I went without a hitch.
Online mode felt nearly as smooth as offline. I raced 4 times.
I can tell you that the other cars are not shown. It was simply an online time trial competition really. Disapointing, but I would hope that the full game features RACING!
Yes, I don't see how they could not include RACING! I should like to collide with lesser drivers and pummel them into oblivion off of a dangerous cliff or into a pointy obstacle.
And pass them. Passing is good.
lol
There's more to rallying than that - you can have all the cars on a course, and CMR Dirt features another more american mode, where there's a whole load of dunebuggies on a dirt course. Hence the name. You know that rally racing is with 1 car on the track to try and get the fastest time?

I'd say the handling physics were solid. I'm sure they could have been a bit more accurate but then I'd probably spin out on turns too easily since I'm not actually in a car and feeling the road. Supposedly it does wind too.
Ah here is where I read that.
"...there's also a real-time physics engine which can be used to model air movements, everything will be affected by the wind: exhaust smoke, trees, foliage, trackside flags, rainfall and the vehicles themselves. A car will create an air rush wake that will have an effect on everything it passes and also generate a real-time slipstream."
I'll download this if the physics are realistic, and if it's not too arcadey.
The screenshots look rather arcadey
Yes, no?
Actually, I believe that's entirely WHY it's called rallying. You're just comparing times, not actually "placing" in a circuit race.
If it wasn't a time trial competition, then I believe it wouldn't be called "rallying".
IE it's entirely point to point, which is why 99% of the time they run it either one car at a time, or WRC style, where they space the cars like, 10 minutes apart.
I would like to race against other rally cars, even if it was just a 'ghost' image of their car. Otherwise, to me, there is no point in playing online. They could just do it like the xbox colin McRae 2005 where your time is uploaded and compared to others. This would be another cool ass option. I'd like to compete for the fastest times with everyone who has this game internet enabled.
As for the game being arcadey or sim. I'm not really sure since I've never done any rallying. I'd say it's somewhere in the middle. I got off work early. Going to play it now!
Yeah I bet it is somewhere in the middle. Not like NFS and probably not like the full fledged sims. But I think it's great fun. Been playing the 3 maps over and over tonight. As for the game being arcadey or sim. I'm not really sure since I've never done any rallying. I'd say it's somewhere in the middle. I got off work early. Sounds like extreme bullshit to me :\
But I finally got Richard Burns Rally working
Insanely awesome game
Might DL this though, just for a bit of dirt run fun
Let me put it to you like this - this is the closest thing to driving a race car I have ever seen.
If your computer can handle the graphics (I had to overclock mine to run smooth in high/ultra settings in 800x600), It looks real, it feels real, it sounds real. The graphics are basically like real footage that you control. My brain is smoldering from playing it. I just can't believe it's here! Photorealistic 3D graphics at a high framerate with perfect control.
If you don't try for yourself, and play it a few times to let it soak in, and get a handle on the handling and control, they you either have one slow internet connection, or you are really retarded.
You keep saying you might d/l it, like it's not worthy - not good enough for you. You have to try it!
Oh, and yes, it's very fun.
Yeah, Live for Speed is really nice. Although I can't compare how this demo is to my experience with LFS because I used to have a wheel but now I don't.
I need to get another. :\
There is a vibration setting within the demo. I think I saw it when I went to the menu while in a race. Of course it was grayed out for me.
Speaking of controls, I've already stated that I'm using the 360 controller in my PC.
I just noticed that my 360controller was rumbling! This is the first time any game (and I have many, and always turn on vibration, but it never works) has made the vibration in my controller activate.
I don't know for sure if it's something with the game, because I had been messing with the 360 controller drivers, and uninstalled it, then installed the latest driver from windows update service.
Anyone else using this controller for this game?
