Why oh why didn't I ever do any volunteer work? :x

Any other seniors out there sharing my similar woes?

I put down Halflife2.net stuff as an extracurricular :D

I was doing it all about this time last year. It's not that much fun but take comfort in the fact that if you slog through it you'll be in college next year having the time of your life (like I am).

Similar experience, don't worry about it, or better yet make it up.

What stuff do you have to do?

Take SAT math I and II, write 3 essays, fill out the Common App, the Texas Common App and supplements for 5 schools, and get three teacher applications. Do 40 hours of volunteer work, keep my grades up in 8 AP classes.

I just started my volunteering (you need 40 hours here, and you have 4 years to do it). I'll have no problem getting mine in the next couple months, before all the college/university stuff ^_^

Whoa, you guys have to volunteer? We don't, here, just have requirements on what classes we've taken and we have to take the SAT. I took the SAT II math and literature though, and a handful of AP classes, and I got into one of the best public schools in the world :D

Geogaddi, seriously, try to get into a school that you probably can't get into. It's worth the effort.

Lawl. I did one application the very last month of high school. I got into that college. I wasn't too worried.

I put property damage down as an extra-curricular activity! :)

Better get on to it ! , if you're running late get the guys to sign for your hours and then complete them when you're free. thats what most of my friends did.

I'm from Texas and I didn't have to do any volunteering to get into the University of North Texas . Come to think of it...I didn't have to do much of anything to get in, hah.

ya i live in texas also and no volunteer hours needed. in my friend private school though they needed a certain number of hours. colleges dont pick you based on your volunteer hours.

They do if you're trying to get into a really really good school.

the school I go to isn't hard to get in, it's hard to stay in.

I'm guessing that's how it should be.

Forgot to mention I have no volunteer hours and a 2.5 GPA, but I made a 30 on the ACT without preparation. That's probably going to look worse than if I had a lower score and appeared to work hard.

Well, the ACT'S are a joke. I got a 33 on them, hung over, with like 4 hours of sleep :E

I'm going to apply to the local King Edwards 6th form (Camp Hill - Don't laugh :p )

Problem is they take 25 people from other schools only, so my chances of getting in are minimal to none. Still, always best to try :)

At least you've got a chance of getting into your schools :(

I've never done any volunteer work, except last year I was a senior in high school and had to do 10 hours of service for my government class, a requirement for graduation, I could have forged it but I would have felt bad and not to mention I did almost no work at all in my senior year (I guess thats why it was my favorite year of school lol). I went to a community college and I'm planning on transferring when I'm done here (2 years), it's a cheaper avenue than the traditional 4 years thing

I don't think I ever had volunteer hours "required" for any of my college apps, but I did them anyways. Just plant some trees or do a trash cleanup or volunteer at a library on weekends or join a club at your school that does volunteering. Not too difficult.

Lol, here in Belgium you just go to the college/uni you want to go to and subscribe. No prerequisites at all. The only thing you have to worry about are the limited vacancies.

Same here. The only requirement to get in here is a GED. But once your here, you need to work your ass off or you're told to gtfo.

Some of the classes I've had have a fail rate of over 70%

D:

Also, all letter grades are shifted up 5% numerically. So at a normal school, a "A" is 90-100%, at my school its 95-100%.

I would have a 3.4 or higher GPA right now if they graded on the standard scale. Instead I have a 2.95.

They would have a lower fail rate if they had more stringent standards.

Yeah, but I think the "Philosophy" of this school is to give everyone a chance. It means that there is a lot of failures coming in each month, but it also means those talented people who didnt have resources or opportunities to meet a school's requirements can still get a education in something they really want.

Like me. I didnt have a traditional art background, and probably wouldnt have been accepted into other art schools, but thankfully I am still able to learn what I really want.
