What the difference in Information Technology and Computer Science?

Computer Science is about computers and Information Technology is about information.

I win.

But computers and science are about information and technology, and information and technology are about computers and science!

How confusing!:rolling:

I guess computer science is more to do with the technical side of things (ie how computers actually work down to the nitty gritty detail), while information technology is more about all the management aspects of it. But they're pretty similar I think.

IT i think is the software based thing, where you work with computers and programming and html etc, all that stuff. Science i think is the bits inside the computer like building them etc, look it up somewhere. We have a Cisco course at my college, which involves building computers, then they steal your computer, **** it up and you gotta fix the problem. I'm not sure entirely tbh.

Yeah this is good enough.

Well I'm not a college major or even in college for that matter. :D I was being a bit of a smart ass.

So don't take what I said as fact.

Computer Science is more of the hardware and conceptual side of computers (algorithmns, processing information, data flow, etc.) while Information Technology is more of how to use computers. Computer Science at our university is in the IT department; so IT is like an umbrella label; Math, Science, Humanities, and IT.

IT = pressing the help button in windows programs...

i may be slightly biased...

I'm currently studying computer science and i do programming (java & perl), networking, low level hardware investigation, algorithms, data structures, operating systems, databases, some legal computer related issues like the data protection act etc, study the software development process ie. you have to create an app from scratch in a group and sell it to one of the lecturers who acts as a customer. There is more that I can't think of, but here is the list of stuff that I do in modules:

Not really sure about IT, but thats what I do in my computer science class. I'm currently on my student placement at the moment so i'm inbetween stages 2 and 3.
