Comments and Crits?

looks sweet, except you could maybe add more sides to the top, make it a bit rounder. do you have any good ref pics, because i know someone who needs them :dork:

Imho you should add a bit more detail to the top part of the gun, but thats just me.

Aswell as detail, you could fix up the shapes of some of the parts. It looks as though this was created for a Half Life 1 mod.
  • The little part near the middle of the frame is shaped correctly, but the extrusion from it is not. I believe it tapers in and makes a triangle with a smoothed edge. If you keep it like this, it will not look good with a skin in a dynamically lit environment.
  • Same goes with the extrusion from the backmost part on the frame, this should be shaped correctly instead of just a box.
  • Slide grooves would be nice.
  • The smoothing, aswell as the shape, on the grip is terrifying. Hopefully you have more references in order to clarify the actual shape of the grip.
  • The hammer you modelled should have an extrusion coming out near the end, this would look nice because it is very close to the player in the first person view.
  • There is no reason to put any more detail into the magazine due to the fact that it is only seen ingame for around 2 seconds.

The gun itself isn't really much more detailed than this, and it's not finished yet. Now onto your cit.

Okay, easy fix, I'll look into it.

Slide grooves would be nice.

Not really necesary. It would be easier to accomplish with bumpmapping actually.

I believe the grip is correct. If not, then it is slightly off. I'll look into it.

The hammer you modelled should have an extrusion coming out near the end, this would look nice because it is very close to the player in the first person view.

Yea, this is something that I've planned on addressing before the completion of the model.

There is no reason to put any more detail into the magazine due to the fact that it is only seen ingame for around 2 seconds.

I haven't yet. I might add some extra detail but who knows.

Crap... when I posted a list of some of the better people over at the polycount forums I left off an important one (I knew this would happen):

wannabe-

Here's a link to his M1911A1. Search for some of his other weapon models/skins while you're at it.

Yes, Wannabe is a great skinner, I know him. Anyhow, here's the skin wip :)

I have to disagree with u there. It looks shit loads better with the skin on. Also the high density of lines on the back end of the gun nearly looks 3d. The 3d parts added to the gun are not even skinned yet... so dunno how its classed as 2d with a skin on? Good job and it looks wicked. Except i still don't understand that jaged edge opn the back on the handle :P

looks awsome to me.

my only gripe is that it should have more wear and tear.

what kind of mod is this for?

usaully 100 year old guns dont look that nice :P

its for OP:CO-IN

What is that gigantic dark line going across the side of the curved part of the slide supposed to be?

Can't you guys hold the crits until its done?

It's a Work in Progress for a reason. :dozey:

looking really good but you just put a lot of unuseful detail in it... just because you can use alot of detail, doesnt mean you have to use it :)

anyways, looking nice

but how on earth can this be 1800? can we have a wireframe plz? :)

Does ~1800 without deleted backfaces sound better? lol. I can delete the grip on the other side, the polys on the front of the barrel and just a bunch of unneeded polys once it goes ingame, but my style is to model all of that until then so that it can be used for the third person model.

Can you make a shaded wireframe render from two opposite angles?

this bit makes the 3d look messed up. the barrel is nice and 3d. but this part messes up the lighting u skinned in the barrel

really to show the shape and texture off a bit more, a grey surface to rest it on/ background would be superb
